4 Oz Cup With Double Flavours ($5). 1-for-1 with #burpplebeyond! One of my all-time favourite ice cream places, and a must-visit place in Bugis! Always looking forward to their rotating flavours because they never fail to disappoint. What’s more, with Burpple Beyond, 4 flavours for just $5! Other than the usual white chocolate nori that never fails to amaze me with its unusual combination of sweet and briny flavours incorporated with white chocolate almond, we also had the triple coconut. Coconut lovers should not miss this coconut indulgence of coconut jelly, coconut flesh and coconut ice cream. You would be delighted to find the amount of coconut flesh hidden within! Also had my first try on Pi Pa Gao and pineapple tarts flavours! The minty, herbal and less sweet pi pa gao ice cream was made using the Three Leg Brand’s Pi Pa Gao, mixed with ice cream custard. Something unusually comforting. Last but not least, the pineapple tarts flavour brought about some festive mood. According to the staff, they churn their own pineapple jam for this ice cream, and indeed, there were chunks of pineapple jam as well as the buttery tarts hidden in this flavour. Tropical, slightly sweet but it’s so unique that you just want to have it again. Thanks to #burpplebeyond, the feeling of enjoying one of my favourite ice cream at half price was even sweeter! As Tom’s palette is hunting for a new location, be sure to catch them at Shaw Towers before the end of March 2020!

Matcha + After 8 Matcha + After 8 ($3.60 - 3 Oz in Cup) When they posted on social media about Matcha Flavour on last week for special flavours by Tom's Palette, I decided to drop by the area on last tuesday. Even though it was raining on evening time and didn't bring the umbrella along with me. I managed to buy umbrella from Waston and decided to walk over from bugis junction to shaw towers. I managed having one-third of Matcha left that most of people have been ordering it during day time. Matcha looked quite light texture but a bit of bitter aftertaste. I decided to pick After 8 because I did tasted it before. After 8 quite creamy, milky and strong mint taste for chocolate. It covered up Matcha Flavour for taste so its best for people who want to try both different flavour. I will be keeping a look where I hope that Hojicha will be comeback next year. They will be moving out of Shaw Tower on 31 Mar 2020 so don't missed them if you want to try their variety of ice cream flavour.

Inside Scoop
The Populous Scramble ($19++) Fridays are never too early for a good brunch. For those that are looking for where to eat, @thepopuluscafe is a place that I’d recommend. Known for its rice and grain bowls, delectable brunch items, soft serves and coffee, I had The Populous Scramble which is a scrambled egg, bacon, fresh herb melange and feta croissant. Don’t be deceived by the picture. It’s actually very wholesome and filling. The croissant was flaky on the outside while soft and buttery on the inside. Scrambled eggs were creamy and not too jelak (rich) that makes it easy for one to finish the dish without much issue. Bacon used here is back bacon although I personally prefer streaky bacon. After all these years it’s been in operation, I’m still impressed by the menu selection and the quality of food here.

Dessert And Small Bites Place The Sticky Date Pudding used to be TO DIE FOR. But over the course of a few months, it seemed to progressively get sweeter and sweeter. It's still good but I would definitely hope they turn down the sweetness. The food is decent though variety seems limited and nothing to shout about. Truffle fries are a good side with the overly sweet pudding.

Eat this. If you can’t be bothered to read the whole review, the key takeaway is you’ve got to order this. This addictive side sees battered cauliflower florets deep fried then dusted with curry powder, served on a bed of lemon emulsion and a drizzle of mega yumz fish sauce caramel. Sounds funky but it really isn’t. The earth curry notes are super prominent here, especially with the addition of fried curry leaves, making the little cauliflower popcorns extremely fragrant and tasty. Then you’ve got that creamy, slightly tangy emulsion to keep it fresh, and then a umami caramel to tie it all together. So satisfying and exceedingly addictive!!

Hits and misses makes me unsure if this Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sando is worth $18.90 But I gotta admit the fried chicken was exceedingly yummy. I mean it was nicely marinated, tender and juicy, and had a fabulously crunchy batter that’s very much like what you get from shrimp paste chicken wings, but without that flavour (if you get what I mean). It’s a wee bit salty on its own, but nicely balanced out with slices of fresh tomatoes, simple slaw, and a genius touch of sour plum powder. Now what I didn’t like, was that the toast was perhaps a little over-toasted and lacking that fluffiness a good sando has. Also would’ve preferred if they pounded the chicken so it’s a more even piece that’s easier to bite into? But what really ticked me off was the salad dressing, which I swear tastes basically like pure lime juice emulsified with a bit of oil — crazy sour and like, really guys it’s a rookie mistake come on.

Berry Ricotta Hotcake [~$14.90] Expect to wait ~20mins for something pretty mediocre. Slightly burnt hotcake, showered with loads of mixed seeds and little berries.
