Penang Char Kway Teow ($5.50) Aromatic "wok-hei" permeated the oodles of noodles completely. And because it was relatively grease-free, I hardly felt the twinge of guilt that usually accompanies the act of me falling face first into a plate of "char kway teow". The only thing I would change about this is the beansprouts. They could do with some fattening up.

Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun Soup ($4.50) I have walked past here several times at night and it's always full of customers feasting on their steaming hot pots of "Malacca Satay Lok Lok". I haven't tried it for myself so I can't comment but I did have their "Ipoh Chicken Hor Fun Soup" and it was really satisfying. They're generous with the smooth rice noodles - almost too generous in fact. And although the plentiful shredded chicken breast meat was a bit on the stringy side, all was forgiven when I sipped the soup. It was clear but full of flavour, and it had crispy bits of fried pork lard in it! Ok, anything with fried pork lard gets me beaming, so I was immediately nodding my head happily as I sucked up every drop of soup from the bowl. They also have this wonderful spicy chicken rice chilli sauce which went very well with the "hor fun" and shredded chicken. Another plus point is they are open till 2am every single night so I know where to go if I feel like having a healthy supper :)

Dry Laksa Bee Hoon [$2.60] Didn't know Old Chang Kee has beehoon until now #slow 馃槀 But anyway it's quite worth it. For this price you get such a big bowl of beehoon. Downside is no meat (fishcake not counted lol) but I aint complaining cause this is really filling. True to its name, it's honestly very dry but not much laksa taste to it. Would highly recommend to add chili cause it definitely give you the kick 馃槣 I guess you can say no HAM trying right 馃槈

FRIyay calls for some FRIed food again! 馃槏 . I found myself craving for the beehoon from Old Chang Kee from the previous time I ate so here I am again! 鉁岎煆 This time round I got the white beehoon ($1.60) with Sotong Ball Onstik ($1.60) & Crab Nugget Onstik ($1.80). 馃挄 . Honestly, there was no (or very subtle) difference between the crab nuggets and fish fillet that I had previously. 馃槀 They all were mainly seasoned flour, which I somehow enjoyed after spamming their sweet chilli sauce as these crispy treats were fried to perfection. 馃構 . I must say that I am surprisingly impressed by their rendition of white beehoon! 馃憤馃徎馃憤馃徎馃憤馃徎 Do not be deceived by its unattractively white appearance 鈥 I was also duped into believing that this white version would be lighter in taste than the brown beehoon. With the first bite, I was proven wrong - the white beehoon was so savoury and flavourful! 馃ぉ馃ぉ馃ぉ . Coupled with refreshing crunchy cabbage & carrot shreds, fragrant crispy fried shallots and mixing in the spicy chilli, the beehoon tasted so good on its own! 馃い Those fried foods were completely outshone by this unassuming contender! 鉂 . Would totally order this white beehoon again next time! 馃憣馃徎 Have u tried it & what do u think?

馃幎Que ser谩, ser谩~ Whatever will BEE, will BEE~馃幎 . So my first 2019 lifting shot is BEE HOON! 馃ぃ Here are 3 easy steps to customise your meal at Old Chang Kee (available for breakfast & early lunch hours till sold out) 馃ぉ馃ぉ馃ぉ . 馃敼锔廠tep 1: Choose your preferred noodle type! 鉁 There is fried beehoon (brown or white, $1.60), dry meesiam ($2.60), dry laksa beehoon ($2.60) or satay beehoon ($2.60). Ask for the chilli at the side - trust me, this chilli has got that spicy kick that enhances the overall flavours of your beehoon greatly! 馃敟 Their fried shallots are also addictively crispy & aromatic! 馃い . 馃敼锔廠tep 2: Choose your favourite add-ons! 馃挄 You鈥檇 be spoilt for choice with the range of fried items (from $1.40 onwards) OCK has on their menu, ranging from the classics like chicken wing ($1.80), spring roll ($1.50), chicken nuggets ($1.70) to more premium items like Jumbo Chicken Leg ($3.90) or Chicken Chunky Pops with Cheese Sauce ($2.90). . 馃敼锔廠tep 3: Add some sweet chilli sauce on your fried food items & VOILA~ u鈥檙e good to enjoy your customised meal! 鉂も潳鉂 . I had the fried brown beehoon ($1.60) with Sotong Ball Onstik ($1.60) & Fish Fillet Onstik ($1.80). I really liked the crunchy cabbage and carrot shreds in the beehoon (which I hoped that there was more), and that the vermicelli wasn鈥檛 overly salty nor greasy. 馃憤馃徎 It was actually pretty tasty! 馃構馃構馃構 . Can鈥檛 go wrong with the classic cuttlefish balls with a nice springy chew. 鉁岎煆 The lightly batted fish fillet nuggets were perfectly crispy on the outside, but I didn鈥檛 quite like it as it was more of flour than fish; is there even any to begin with? 馃 . Overall, this filled me up with a taste of home. 馃槉

Penang Char Kway Teow I have eaten this char kway teow more than 5 times in the last 6 months and this really tells a lot - given that I typically shun chain cafes / restaurants. The wok hei is incredible and the most unimaginable part is that the dish is non greasy - how did the Chef even do that ? The texture of the kway Teow is so QQ - I honestly haven鈥檛 tried a similar type of kway teow quality as such . Paired with some homemade sambal , this dish is a must order . My only disappointment is the use of the crystal looking prawns 馃崵- recalled that I first had the dish with real prawns . Please bring the real prawns back 馃槶.....

Nasi Lemak With Curry Chicken For most times, I shun chain outlets as such but my first experience with pappa rich a year ago kept me coming back for more . There鈥檚 something unique about pappa rich . You鈥漧l understand when you take a try at their food . There鈥檚 something that screams homemade and that鈥檚 pretty unusual .... In fact , their food reminds me of madam kwan鈥檚 food in KL - the same amount of pride and detail in each recipe . Intrigued, I researched further about pappa rich and read from their website about how they import their ingredients from various parts of Malaysia to all their outlets over the world. Like how their horfun is from Ipoh and that their Kaya is homemade . The nasi lemak with curry chicken is a must get for me every time I visit pappa rich. The rice is well cooked without being too greasy and matches well with the homemade sambal ( so homemade that you can see onion chunks in their sambal ). The curry chicken is so creamy and aromatic and the potatoes are cooked till soft while the chicken is fresh ( not frozen). The place that I would go when I need to get a good nasi lemak / curry chicken anytime . Be sure to try their charcoal toasted bread with homemade kaya . To me , it Beats both the rendition from yakun and Kiliney combined - that鈥檚 how good it is .

Nasi Lemak Set Qiji still meets the cut .... Although the rice was dry and quite lifeless .... The condiments more than made up for it . The chicken wing was served fresh - juicy , crisp and not greasy . The otah was really outstanding - lots of flavour and texture . The cucumber was freshly sliced . The chilli was good, good, good ..... Just look out for which qiji you go to ... the one at Star Vista is to be avoided because food standards are bad . Just stick to the Bugis village one - you will be quite safe .

Tauhu Goreng I simply love homegrown brand qiji for a fuss free meal. I found that besides the Longtong, the tahu goreng served here is also pretty good. The star of the dish is really the tahu goreng sauce which has a good balance of a tinge of sourish ( from Assam or lime juice ) and sweetness. The Tauhu cubes are fried to perfection with a good content of moisture still retained within. The generous amount of shredded cucumber and carrots and bean sprouts makes this a complete meal on its own .

Local fare Everyone knows QiJi for serving good local cuisines at reasonable prices! Now you are able to satisfy your late night cravings easily at their new outlet on the corner of Syed Alwi road (beside Swee Choon dim sum) Rating: 7.2/10 Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes Pros: Nice new local cafe to have teabreaks and casual catch-up sessions. Opens till 3am & 4am (wkends). Have both indoor/outdoor seating with ceiling fans. Very comfortable. Food-wise pretty standard local fare. Mee siam i had was flavoursome & isn't the spicy sort which i prefer. Cons: High MSG content. I'm not familiar with mee siam but there's not much ingredients inside, just an egg, a few sprinkles of tau pok & beansprouts. Some of you, especially guys, may not find it filling enough. Price: S$5.90 - mee siam, lime juice
