Crowd pleaser Looks like you can’t go wrong with the Winestone Signature Burger ($27++). The portion was large, the wagyu patty tender, and there was a generous serving of portobello mushroom. That might be a minus if you do not enjoy mushrooms, as the taste often overshadowed the other components of the burger.

Fancy beef bolognese Ordered the ragout tagliatelle ($25++), which turned out to be a fancy beef bolognese that still isn’t the best out there :’( The pasta was perfectly al dente, and the sauce rich. However, dish felt cheap with the use of ground beef that didn’t have much bite to it. It also turned out to be jelak / fairly overwhelming about halfway through the dish. Perplexing as they are generous with the ingredients for the seafood risotto (also heavy tasting, but very much worth its price point). But worth a mention that service was good :) TL;DR you really have to love beef bolognese to enjoy this dish (which I did), but likely leave feeling cheated.

rich risotto The braised seafood risotto ($28++) was easily my favourite. The short grains had a great bite, and I was impressed with the rich seafood bisque! Every mouth was a burst of creamy flavours. The portion of seafood was extremely generous - there were crayfish, mussels, prawns and even scallops?! Each component was fresh and succulent, retaining its natural sweetness. It can get overwhelming with its strong flavours and large serving, so this is best shared. But I’ll be back for this! 🌟

Lobsters & Oysters Brunch $88++ I was so looking forward to all the lobsters' dishes but unfortunately, they all taste meh~ 😕 The lobster tails are so-so, the claws are tough and tasteless. Lobster bisque is not bad but it’s cold.😐 The turnip in the lobster popiah is quite bland, you can easily get nicer popiah outside. Ok, so what’s nice? The prawns are sweet & fresh, taste much better than the lobsters, oysters, mussels were gd. As for the sashimi, salmon/maguro/ika was stated in the menu but only salmon is available, the rest are sushi.🤨 My favorites will be the foie gras and egg benedict. The foie gras is pan-fried until crispy on the outside while still soft on the inside and it just melts in your mouth. The egg ben muffin is soft and fluffy when paired with the oozy yolk, it’s the best combo ever! The Sio Bak is very crispy and tasty! The tarts and cakes are yummy too! When food coma attacks, just go to the poolside and chill and have a pretty power nap. 😴😂

Braised Tofu in Claypot ($38++) Conservative restaurant with no innovative dishes, but well-executed traditional ones, like Chinese spinach with eggs in broth or braised tofu in claypot. However, the Peking duck here is a disappointment. The skin is deliciously crispy, but it is served here without any meat (unlike at the much superior Imperial Treasures Super Peking Duck in Paragon) and is lost when wrapped in the pancake which is a tad too thick. The second dish (with noodles or fried rice) is extremely meh - no better than what you can find at Crystal Jade Kitchen. Except for the proactive fellow doing tea refills, service is quite slow. The ambience is homey and traditional, lacking class or any wow factor. All in all, a decent place, but not great value; there are many much better restaurants at this price level.

We finally made our way here! 😍 I loved everything in the Matsu omakase ($138++) we had! There’s the uni and wagyu tartare in a cone ❤️, refreshing salad with yuzu that is thankfully not over drenched in sauce, goma tofu, roasted wagyu, chamame (like edamame) in a monaka shell, chawanmushi topped with lots of unagi, different wagyu yakiniku grilled to your preference (medium rare of course), fragrant garlic fried rice, the best soup (because it’s not miso and the beef inside is sweet and tender) and even the dessert. Though I’m not usually a fan of panna cotta, it goes well with the fruits and looks festive🎄😁 Would love to return for the premium Ume set at $198++, but the affordable lunch only omakase at $68/98++ are very tempting too 🤔 The chef and staff are all very nice, and I love the cow figurine used to educate us on the different parts we are eating 😆 #thegyubar #wagyu #yakiniku #omakase #burpple #burpplesg

Wagyu Shabu Shabu ($98/pax, min 2 pax). You know I love the wagyu at Gyu Bar, as they serve quality cuts at prices that aren't too expensive. This time, besides their signature yakiniku, they're also serving shabu shabu and sukiyaki. 🔸 Pictured is Kumamoto Wagyu at $196++ for two pax. If you want more meat, you can opt for additional wagyu at $75, or additional Miyazaki Pork Shoulder at $45. Alternatively, the Miyazaki Pork Shoulder shabu shabu set is $68 per pax, if you don't want wagyu. But you must save for the truffle egg porridge ($38 for two pax) at the end of the meal. They add rice, egg, truffles, and other condiments into the remaining shabu shabu broth for their comforting porridge. 🔸 Thanks @gyubarsg boss @thetravellingcow for the treat!

Carabinero Prawn ($28 each). Surprise find at Gyu Bar, which made me realise that Gyu Bar isn't all about premium wagyu. They actually have these carabinero priced only at $28 per piece. And these are high grade and prawns that are deep red, as owner @thetravellingcow explained that they wanted to keep the price relatively affordable. 🔸 And they tasted amazing under the grill... After I'm finished with the premium prawn flesh, I found myself sucking on its shells just to extract the brunt fragrance and whatever was remaining from the prawn juices.. And definitely, don't forget the head. A lot of good stuff inside.
