Amazing Duck Pastilla Fat Prince is simply Middle Eastern cuisine done right, and I've found many gems on their new menu - Their Duck Pastilla, in particular, was a show-stopper. Not enough can be said about the heavenly blend of vegetables and almonds with some stunningly flavoursome shredded duck — juicy and devoid of any gameyness. Parceled within a delicate layer of filo pastry, which also imparted traces of fragrant butteriness, the dish was a sublime exercise in combining textures.

New Menu Is Great "Be still my beating heart" — that's the kind of unbridled excitement that this lamb shoulder invoked in me. - Slow cooked in the oven overnight, the rich latent flavours were drawn out impeccably, as a torrent of juices flooded my palate with an eloquently layered blend of varied flavours, but with lamb gameyness distinctly absent. More importantly, the protein boasted of an unparalleled suppleness scant in most lamb dishes — simply beautiful.

The Expanded Fat Prince Still Dishes Out Tasty Modern Middle Eastern Cuisine That’s Ideal For Sharing LAUNCH DINNER PARTY The @FatPrinceSg has fattened so to speak, having taken over the space that use to house its sibling - The Ottomani. To celebrate the expansion, a party was thrown and many beautiful people made up the guest list. And then there was me, who accepted the invitation from the GM Mike Pekarsky and Accela the PR agency because I was curious about the food. As the space is designed for groups to chill out over food and drinks, the menu of modern Middle Eastern dishes are formatted to be shared. Ordering the following would undoubtedly make for an enjoyable dinner: 1. Cured Salmon Crudo - I loved how the unexpected sweetness from the pomegranate molasses and smoked date purée complemented the fish. 2. Roasted Candied Beetroot with preserved lemon, mulled honey, smoked yoghurt and Ottoman spice - A lovely appetiser of the bright and juicy vein. 3. Eggplant Meet Yoghurt - Accompanied by Turkish flatbread and sprinkled with sultana raisins, the dip has a smokiness which is beguiling. 4. Duck Pastilla - All were very impressed by the delicious creation of thin filo pastry filled with shredded confit duck, vegetables and almonds. Served hot, it was plated with a carrot purée and duck jus. 5. Lamb Shoulder - Seasoned in Turkish spices, then braised overnight in the specially-built earth oven fueled by charcoal and lychee wood, the star dish of The Ottomani now calls the Fat Prince home. Lamb-lovers, you should rejoice. 6. Charred Shishito - Even if you are only having drinks, get this pan of mini chilli peppers with anchovy, preserved lemon and walnut to nibble. 7. Couscous with Crunchy Chicken Skin - Clever combo of lemon juice-dressed grains with pieces of deepfried sinfulness. 8. Chocolate Halva - A thick chocolate mousse embellished in spiced pumpkin, cacao nibs and almond tuille layer - decadence in every bite.

Falafel (Vegetarian) | BB 3 Course Set Menu — Starter What exactly: “Deep-fried fava bean and chickpeas croquettes served with tahini sauce and pickles.” — menu Price on menu: $10.00 Thoughts on food: My friend and I are not the most informed on how Middle Eastern food should taste and what is considered good but this was a tad too salty for our liking. Will I order this again: Probably not. Will I visit this place again: If there is a Burpple deal or any deal/discount of some sort. But I would recommend this place to people; it is worth a try. If you are using BB for the same deal, do note that you will be charged a flat price of $49++ regardless of your choice of order from the Burpple-exclusive menu. It is not so much a 1-for-1 but you still save a substantial amount (~$23 for my friend and I) in total. Also they charge GST for service charge too.

Hummus (Vegetarian) + Pita Bread | BB 3 Course Set Menu — Starter What exactly: “Chickpea puree with seasame paste and lemon juice topped with extra virgin olive oil.” — menu Price on menu: $10.00 Thoughts on food: My friend and I are not the most informed on how Middle Eastern food should taste and what is considered good but this was alright. The pita bread was soft and not too dry. Will I order this again: Probably not, so that I can try something else. Tawook Wrap What an absolutely delicious wrap ($17). It came with grilled marinated chicken breast. The inside was filled with tomatoes, pickles and garlic sauce. It was served with sweet potato fries and coleslaw. It was a really flavorful wrap, with the marinade enhancing the delightfully tender chicken and the garlic and tomato flavor enhancing each other. And that delicious hummus in the background lending its deep earthy notes to the dish. Every mouthful was so full of flavor. Finally I loved the sweet potato as well; they made the perfect vessel for hummus or any of the delicious dips that were provided with the other dishes.

Lamb Shawarma Bowl Shawarmas were made famous by the Avengers and I really wanted to give it a shot. This $18 bowl consisted of creamy hummus, quinoa, crunchy vegetables (lettuce, tomato and cucumber), chickpeas, harissa and drizzled with tahini sauce. Garnish was a simple sprinkle of almond flakes and a lemon wedge. The pieces of lamb alone were mindblowing. Super tender, juicy and flavorful, they were perfectly cooked. Not chewy at all, but yet with that distinct muttony taste. The veggies were super refreshing and needed in a bowl otherwise full of very strong flavors. The tang of the tomato was exactly what the dish needed to balance out. It tastes like a zhnged-up bowl of Stuff'd. With exceptionally delicious meat.

Sampling Platter This $21 platter was super value for money. It came with a side of hummus with pita bread and vegetable sticks (celery, carrot and cucumber) and an incredible variety of Mediterranean snacks. There were these warak enab (the two leafy looking rolls) which turned out to be stuffed grape leaves. They had a rice and vegetable stuffing and tasted...interesting. Labneh is a type of Greek yogurt with a dash of olive oil. It was thick, creamy and tangy. Perfect to dip heavier meats and other deep fried stuff in. There were 2 of the most delicious falafels I've ever had. These flat disks of ground chickpeas were crispy and delightfully spiced. Pairing perfectly with a savory tahini sauce. The kibbeh here is made of spiced ground beef shaped into balls, stuffed with rice and vegetables and deep fried with more yogurt sauce. Kind of tasted like an inverse onigiri. Finally, tabbouleh is a parsley and tomato based salad. It's certainly interesting eating parsley as the main component of a dish rather than as a garnish. But it turned out to be really delicious and refreshing.

Halloumi Cheese Apparently halloumi cheese has a high melting point and it's property as a semi-hard cheese makes it one that is favorable for grilling. 4 slices of halloumi cheese ($16) were presented with this portion. I really wanted to like and appreciate the brininess and flavor of the cheese, but I couldn't. Not even pairing it with other foods could dull its overpowering saltiness. I liked the bite and texture of each slice, but this is really for the hardcore cheese lovers. 3/10

Cheese Bread This is a flatbread covered with bubbly cheese ($5.50). There is no possible way this could go wrong. The savory, slightly salty mozzarella with the chewy flatbread...it tastes like a pizza. I intended for this to be a hummus dip, but really it tastes better on its own. Cheese and hummus is too much oil, and the earthy flavors of the hummus tend to overwhelm the cheese. But it's definitely worth the try. The owner added as he cleared our plates: "all the bread is handmade as a Mediterranean place has to get its bread right. The mains can be inconsistent, but the bread must always be good." As a bread lover, I nodded vigorously in agreement. 8.5/10

Rayesh Ghanam Really wanted to try a lamb dish since it's less common in Asian cuisine, so I tried this charcoal grilled lamb chops served with pickled red cabbage and a choice of saffron rice or French fries. ($32) These delightful lollipops of meat were really juicy and I loved the spice rub/marinade that was packed onto them. They came off the bone with minimal effort and pulling, without that gamey muttony flavor which can taint this wonderful red meat. They also had a nice smokey char from the barbeque grill. I just wish they could have been slightly more tender and pink in the center. That would have elevated this dish to an above-8 level. 7.5/10

Authentic Lebanese Cuisine Feasting here at friday evening has a different tone to it, the chimes from the mosque nearby amidst a golden sunset glow, together with grill platter of meats and rounds of beers. The grilled lamb kofta is my favourite - crisp with its flavours brought out, together with the fragrant minced chicken sausage. The grilled chicken chunks was on the drier side. We loved the grilled haloumi, hummus, falefel This feast is on the pricier end (~$75). Enjoyed this middle eastern cuisine and will love to find slightly cheaper alternatives too

Labanese Charcoal Mixed Grill —$46.90 If you are new to Labanese cuisine, @byblosgrillsg is a good place for a start. The fact that they serve very authentic labanese food yet the flavours are simple enough for our tastebuds to explore and distinguish. Their lamb chops are so well seasoned and chargrilled that there is zero game and the meat breaks away. Labanese cuisine is also known for their kofta and mashwi which a mixed platter would be ideal to try them all. Whereas Mezza Platter ($31.50) allows you to try their appetising dips such as grilled eggplant with herbs and chickpea which is surprisingly good. To think all the flavours of the dishes complemented well and dont clash, i give it to the chef. And no labanese meal is complete without Laban Aryan drinks made from fresh yogurt and recommended to have fruity flavoured ones for beginners ($8.90). We prefer their Strawberry Ayran. An idea for your sundate or gatherings along 14 Bussorah Street.

Mixed Salad Best are the falafels, made with broadbeans instead of the usual chickpeas, although they are a bit pricey at $2.50 for a tiny piece. Friendly place with the Egyptian owner running the show himself. Hope the economics work out for them, as this location has high rents and they have lots of staff.
