Late Night Dim Sum The perfect dim sum place the opens till 6am in the morning to feed the hungry bellies in the wee hours. Their signature mee suah kueh is a must-order kind of dish over at Swee Choon. It's like carrot cake made of mee suah then fried to give a crispy and soft texture. XLB was still as good as before with the skin not being too thick/thin enough to break and spill the soup before it goes into my mouth. Not forgetting to request for their hae bee hiam to pair their dim sum! Swee Choon Tim Sum Restaurant. Located at 183-193 Jalan Besar, Singapore 208882. . . . Clockwise from top left, Prawn & Banana Fritter 2pcs $3, Shanghai Xiao Long Bao 4pcs $4.50, Rice Roll with Char Siew $3.80, Fried Carrot Cake 2pcs $2.40. Famous for their wide variety and delicious Dim Sums! Totally spoilt for choice as we were flipping through their immersive selection of dishes😳 Love their golden crunchy deep fried prawn and banana fritters that’s in total crispiness! Even the simplest fried carrot cake taste so old school and comforting, we hadn’t had such a good one in awhile! Xiao long bao and char siew rice rolls live up to our expectations and were fantastic too! A table full of happiness and goodness! Yummy. . . . @sweechoon.sg #hungryunicornsg #sweechoon #sweechoondimsum #sweechoontimsum #dimsum

Fishball Bak Chor Mee - M ($8) I got the meepok w vinegar only while my lunch bud got the normal meepok (chili, vinegar & ketchup I think). Components that I liked best: soup, noodles & fishballs! Added more vinegar to my noods bc I love vinegar. A spoonful of the nicely cooked noods + garnishings (fried garlic, lard & spring onion) + mushroom was gr8. The soup is tasty, prob from the natural flavours of the ingredients (don’t think there’s MSG). Fishball didn’t have a fishy taste, tasted like the fishballs from my childhood (cc margaret drive fishball). The prawns, fishcake and pork slices were decent too, the pork slices are not the dry lean kind. My lunch bud liked the liver (I don’t like it so I gave it all to him), he said that it was cooked well, kinda like medium rare such that it’s not too rubbery. This has 1-4-1 so I’ll gladly pay $4 for this!

Another list ✅. Ah ter Teochew Fishball Noodle Bar , located at 5 Lor Telok. The springy noodle tossed with the sauce has components of homemade Chili, vinegar (not overpowering) and a bit of tomato ketchup. All components balance well. The highlight for me is the soup. The soup was tasty, flavoured and garlicky. Served with fishball, meatball, mince meat, liver, fishcake and prawn. 💰$10 📍Ah Ter Fishball Noodle Bae. 5 Lorong Telok.

Value For Money ($8 For 2 Bowls) Great mix and generous amounts of ingredients - mushrooms, and liver!! They cook it perfectly :-) The tangy mee pok’s well coated with the sauce too 🥰 Overall the vinegar taste leans toward the strong side but I like my Bar Chor Mee that way. However do expect longer waiting time during lunch crowds (1pm), as we waited about 30-45 mins after landing ourselves some seats and ordered. Atmosphere wise, the shop’s partially air-conditioned with seating arrangements good for groups of 6. If not, do prepare to share your good times and intimate conversations with strangers!

🎶You can stand under my umbrelLA, elLA, elLA, eh eh eh~🎶 . I get super excited when I see so much seafood on my plate of La-la White Beehoon ($8/$12/$16) so this rendition from Le Xiao Chu really got me drooling! 🤤🤤🤤 Needless to say, the generous amount of fresh seafood imparted that natural sweetness to the broth, bringing with it umami in every slurp. 😋 . The white beehoon absorbed the essence of that gravy well, hence tasted extremely rich with a nice bite (thankfully not too soggy!) 👍🏻 Albeit a tad too salty, I liked the eggy fragrance of the broth & all the seafood on this plate. ❤ The vegetables also provided a good crunch amidst the overall slurping soft textures. 😊 . Quite a decent plate of la-la white beehoon I would say! Pretty addictive also - it got me going for a second serving! 💕

Happy Hump Day, friends! ❤ Hoping the work week TROTs along faster!! 😅 . Tried 2 of Le Xiao Chu’s signatures: . 🔹️Signature Pig’s TROTters ($28): Looked promising as the huge pig trotters was perfectly browned from the roast. 😍😍😍 However, I found that it was overly cooked. While I very much enjoyed the crisp exterior, the meat was overly tough & dry - definitely not the moist & tender texture that I was looking forward to. 😔 Things were better for parts where there was more fats as the fats graciously lent some grease to the surrounding meat, making it more succulent. For the chunks of lean meats, I felt like I was eating pork jerky. 🤣 . THE SAUCE THOUGH was a winner for me. 💕 A harmonious blend of lemongrass, garlic, sugar, vinegar/lime, chilli etc., it was like a Thai sweet chilli sauce concoction. 👏🏻 Extremely refreshing & complementary to the meat! 👍🏻 . 🔹️Fragrant Spicy Fish Head (金香鱼头, $26): Instead of the usual curry fish head, this rendition was a dry one, stir-fried with turmeric, curry leaves, curry powder, garlic, chilli padi etc. While I enjoyed the robust flavours of the seasoning very much 😋😋😋, the fish chunks seemed overcooked (probably deep-fried too long b4 stir-frying). Wished the meat was more tender & moist. . So these signatures didn’t leave me impressed. Perhaps one should go for their highly-recommended claypot seafood porridge, or just stick to their normal tze char dishes which are decent too! 😊

Alternative To HDL? Situated at the 8th floor of Orchard Central, this hotpot restaurant is a nice alternative for people seeking for a quiet supper place in town. They are open until 6am! When I was there at about 11pm, I was the only customer Their specialty soup base is the fiery butter mala, and mushroom flavor. The waiter recommended us to try the mild level, and I have to thank him for saving my life. Even at mild level, the mala soup base is lethal. The spice immediately took the a hit at the back of my throat the moment i took a sip that caused me to cough. For mala lovers, feel free to knock yourself out by going for the a higher level. (sorry i weak) For non-mala lovers, you will be happy to know their mushroom soupbase is refreshing and addictive as well. Do take note that their maggi noodles ($2 for two) require more time to cook than usual, but the wait is worth it. If you are a seafood lover, their prawns ($16 for 7-8) is a must-order. Very fresh and crunchy (like those dim sum prawns in har gow) after cooking in the soup. The waiter was attentive and showed good initiative, such as offering aprons and peeling the prawns Interestingly, they do not offer chicken meat option. You can go for their black pork ($8 for half portion) or the Australian marbled beef ($20). However, the meat does not leave a lasting impression on me For sauces and condiments, its $2.50 per pax. But I would say the mala broth will provide enough kick to your buds and throat
