Value For Money! When I came, I could not locate where the cafe is at exactly. When I finally found it, I didn't know where was the entrance door lol. I can overlook these both. So my friend and I ordered two sets of Butcher's daughter which cost about $14 for each plate? It consists of beef slices where we can decide on the done-ness. I chose medium rare and it was really good! Not dry but juicy and tasty! The fries was seasoned well and it's crispy outside and soft inside! I loved both the beef and fries actually! Salad was good too with the balsamic vinegar dressing! The scrambled eggs was cooked so well, better than MacDonalds or any other scrambled eggs I've tasted by far! The eggs can decide between scrambled and sunny side up as well. The lychee iced tea ($6) was just right as well. I had quite a wonderful meal overall. The ambience of the cafe was very calm and laid back. A good place for people who would like to study. Even the staff was friendly and helpful, there were 2 who was very courteous to ask about our take on the food and everything. It was nice to have staffs who are concerned about their service and food. The only thing I found it disappointing was the menu, they could consider providing more varietu of food choices.

For Halal-Friendly Weekend Brunches From the same guys behind Penny University, this Muslim-owned cafe in Tampines West Community Club draws the crowds for its comforting fusion cafe fare and affordable prices — perfect for family meals. With exposed ceilings and long wooden benches, its setting is industrial chic without being too in-your-face about it, making for really laidback vibes. If it's your first time here, go for the Butcher's Daughter ($14) on the weekend brunch menu (available on weekends, 9am to 5pm). The generous piece of seared sous vide steak, cooked well and served with fluffy scrambled eggs and crispy fries, makes for a tasty protein-rich plate. Alternatively, try the Moroccan Baked Eggs ($12). Mixed through with beef, the dish is flavourful, with a good kick of spice, and the sourdough on the side is made for mopping up all that delicious gravy. Tummies filled, sit back and sip on a cup of Jaffa Orange Mocha ($6) or the Spiked Muddy Espresso ($6.50) that comes sweetened with gula Melaka. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burppler Dex Neo

Brownies, Peanut Butter Jelly Waffles Finally using the quote "true friends share calories" - drove one of my girl friends here for desserts; the brownies plate and peanut butter jelly waffles ($12 nett each) particularly. The former was essentially rich, dense, melt in your mouth chocolate fudge with surprise bites of burnt caramel (?); very indulgent so do not be fooled by its size. Paired off with a scoop of banoffee ice cream that tried to balance the richness of the 2 gooey chocolate brownie bars. The latter was slightly disappointing-factoring in how we were 3/4 filled from our brownies when it arrived. While the fruit jelly- jam over and around the waffle was appetising, I'd still classify this as forgettable waffles.

For Consistently Good Cafe Dishes Despite the many openings throughout the years, we know we can still rely on Artistry, where food and coffee are both spot on. Indoor seating is limited, so swing by this cafe cum casual art gallery early to be seated in the comforts of air-conditioning, otherwise be prepared to sit outdoors. As always, our recommended eating plan is for a group of four to share two mains, so that you still have stomach space for dessert. You won't go wrong with the popular Artistry Chilli Crab Burger ($25) that sees a ridiculously generous patty of blue swimmer crab meat served with a heap of fries and a bowl of irresistible chilli crab sauce to dunk everything in. The crowd-pleasing Potato Hash and Scrambled Eggs ($20) that comes with silky scrambled eggs, surprisingly crisp kale and bacon, and little fried potato balls is another great option to share. If there's only one item your stomach has space for, let it be the PB&J French Toast ($14). Expect a generous slather of smooth peanut butter smeared in between two pillowy slices of brioche, topped with vanilla bean ice cream, mixed berry coulis and a scattered bed of speculoos cookie soil. Wash it down with a cup of their excellent Flat White ($5) or Gibraltar ($5), a double shot of espresso with just a bit of milk. Avg Price: $25 per person Photo by Burpple Tastemaker Marc T.

Banana French Toast With Mascarpone ($12+$4) Berries compote between simple banana bread, with mascarpone and freeze-dried raspberries. Enjoyed the delish coffee custard which was fragrant and not cloying. Not the best banana bread around (wished there were more banana) but decent enough for a happy dessert with good coffee. Topped up $4 for a scoop of espresso-based ice cream that seemed to have a hint of earl grey(?!) which was an absolute delight.

Favorite place to perk-me-up and chill! Using roasts from around the world, people who take their coffee seriously (or just want to avoid less than satisfactory ones) will enjoy the selections here. Go for the everyday espresso (couldn't rmb what it was) - so far it's been a no-frills, guaranteed good brew everytime I'm here. #burpple

Goin' Bananas I've been seeing VXX Cooperative pop up every now and then on my social media feeds, but I've dismissed them as yet another overpriced hipster café that you could unabashedly whore yourself out to Instagram in. Oh how wrong I was, and VXX's stunning banana French toast set the record straight. Two thick, fluffy and subtly sweet banana laden slices of French toast are conjoined by a beautiful berry compote that's satisfyingly sweet, yet tastefully tart. Light, airy mascarpone is generously slathered atop the beautiful banana French toast before a smattering of frozen berries are artfully arrayed atop the whole thing. On its own, it's a satisfying, sweet start to any day of the week, but when that delectable coffee custard sauce rains upon the colorful parade, and when a scoop of VXX's stellar signature coffee ice cream is tacked onto the already amazing affair, it just takes you to a higher level. At no point while consuming this tantalizing toast did I ever feel like I needed an insulin shot. All the flavors combine to bring you a sweet symphony of delight, and good God do I need to get myself an encore of this palatable performance. When the price of admission is just a modest $12 with an additional $4 for that superb scoop of ice cream, there really isn't much that can dissuade me from returning for more.

Maximum Comfort! 1 for 1 deal on fried chicken? Sign me up! Love that Burpple now has a deals feature which alerts you to food deals! Had the Nashville hot 🐔 and buttermilk fried 🐔 ! Both chicken were well marinated, and tender even though they were thoroughly deep fried. Preferred the hot chicken over the normal one as it has a nice kick to it. However, the real stars of the night were the Mac n cheese and biscuit with gravy. The Mac n cheese was done just right with a good amount of cheese and cream that did not end up being too jelat! The biscuit was rich and 'fluffy' which was complemented very well by the savoury gravy. The promotion ends at 31 April, so better hurry up!

One Night Only (Nashville Hot Chicken and Chicken-Fried Steak) First of all, chicken-fried steak isn't chicken. It's actually beef. And it's actually a pretty thick slab of it, so it definitely fills you up especially if like me, you ordered 2 carbo loaded sides to go with it (read: Southern Cornbread and Biscuits & Gravy) The gravy is delicious and really goes well with the crispy steak. For the Nashville Fried Chicken, you have the option of either 2 or 3 pieces. With 1 for 1 mains in the month of April when you flash your Burpple App, it's obvious which one we went for. 😆 Overall, a place with unique setting and offerings. Must go! #Burpple

Exactly What A Burger Should Be No-frills Cheeseburger ($18 for double cheeseburger) When you're here, skip the mains and go for their burger. It's perhaps the most authentic American cheeseburger I've eaten in Singapore - two cheese slices on each patty, huge juicy patties, soft brioche bun, and the classic tomatoes and lettuce. Sometimes, the simpler it is, the better, and this burger is testament to that ideal. Bless my arteries, but I'm already craving for it again. This was the best burger I've ever had.

Right now, the only pancakes I need. I don't know if everything on their menu can be considered classic, hearty American diner grub, but daaaaaaamn son their pancakes are some seriously legit shit. It's so so fluffy — just look at how nicely thick these stacks are without having the cakey, crumbly texture pancakes others (eg those at Clinton St) has — while having that nice, chewy, gluten-y kinda texture! Perfect for soaking and mopping up syrup, complete with globs of (DIY salted) butter. Do yourself a favour and order these plain, with some of their daily homemade jams. Much better considering the pathetic amount of bacon served in their Maple Bacon Pancakes.

Beef Chilli Tater Tots ($14) So sinfully yummy, I couldn't stop after picking up my first one. Tater tots were crispy, beef chilli with sour cream and mayo is an all time winning combination. Cold Brew White. Chilling during lunch and trying all the cold brew that I can get my hands on. Nothing too special about this, I preferred Old Hen's one than this. I'm not that good at telling what kind of coffee is good but this didn't leave anything especially memorable. Come here for their sandwiches instead because you won't regret it at all!

Crunchy Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16) I had flown in to Park Bench Deli for an errand but flew out grinning from ear to ear because I had their Crunchy Fried Chicken Sandwich in my clutch! 😄 The moment I got back into my waiting cab, off went the wrapping and in chomped my teeth. The combo is pretty much a classic but you can trust PBD to do everything with panache. This means they use only thigh meat, sou vide-ing it first for tenderness before frying it to a loud crunchy finish (which somehow manages to not be oily). Swaddled with the chicken in the onion bread is a killer duo of cheekily spicy housemade slaw (it contains Peruvian green chilli sauce), cucumber and good ol' Japanese kewpie mayo. Is your mouth watering yet? Mine is 🤤

Curry Croquetas. For Skewers, Sharing Plates and Sake This casual izakaya spot on Tras Street is the perfect place to wind down with friends (who love eating as much as you do). Sit near the grill to watch the chefs work their magic or opt for the large table if you're in a large group. From the skewers section, go for familiar items like Tsukune ($4.50), the melt-in-your-mouth Pork Belly ($4), and our favourite Nagaimo Mentai ($8 for three pieces) — yam topped with mentai mayo and torched for a smokey finish. Adventurous eaters should have the Heart ($4), the Gizzard ($4) and the unbelievably tasty Tail ($4) glazed in a garlic shoyu sauce. Birders also offers small plates for sharing like Liver Mousse ($16), a bourbon-infused chicken liver pate that comes with deep-fried mantou and house made yuzu marmalade on the side, and chicken-stuffed Curry Crouqetas ($10 for three). End with a Takikomi Chazuke ($10), a humble grilled onigiri with a side of dashi broth. Drinks-wise, get the Cup Sake (prices from $15), which allows you to try different sakes in small quantities (180ml). Just ask the friendly staff for recommendations! Liver Mousse $16 I never pass up on liver pâté if I see it on the menu and Birders doesn't disappoint with their velvety smooth version spiked with bourbon. No funk, only rich and luxurious flavour that begs to be spread over an insufficient number of deep-fried mantou. The tangy yuzu marmalade is there to provide respite from the heavier tasting components if you need it, but I find myself spooning the pâté straight out of the pot and into the mouth once the buns run out. Thanks @burpple for the invite and @birderssg for the great hospitality! Taste: 3.5/5

New Yakitori & Sake Bar at Tras Street Newly opened at 55 Tras Street is Birders; a Yakitori and Sake Bar that serves up adventurous sticks like Chicken Tail, Chicken Heart and Chicken Gizzard as well as the safer crowd pleasers such as Tsukune and Pork Belly. My preferred dishes include the savoury and flavourful Pork Belly, thickly cut yam with an adequately portioned drizzle of Mentaiko for the Nagaimo Mentai, the Big Black Balls that a battered, deep-fried balls with Japanese curry and minced chicken fillings inside and Liver Mousse which surprisingly wasn't overpoweringly salty and creamy without carrying a stench; comes with sweet fried mantou buns and Yuzu jam to smother with. Pair the Yakitori sticks up with one of the three Dons available; all of which thoughtfully sized so one can get the best out of both worlds without stuffing themselves silly with both Don and Yakitori — the Oyako Don was all comforting while the Takikomu Chazuke (grilled multi grain rice ball; think of it as a grilled Onigiri less the seaweed doused in dashi broth); a light compliment to the otherwise meaty meal. Alternatively, the saucey Yakitori Bowl is always there if one ever needs more sticks with rice too. Thanks Birders for hosting the Burpple Tastemaker Eatup last night and also for generously stuffing us with their menu as well as Burpple for the invite!

Salted Egg with Stuffed Scallop [$14.80 for 3 Pieces] This is another dish to expect from Yum Cha's upcoming Mother's Day Special Set Menu. A slice of scallop with a ball of prawn stuffing on the top and deep fried with salted egg. It's recommended to eat together with the piece of lettuce, which indeed helped to balance out the flavors. The salted egg coating was rather rich but we were just hoping for a slightly thicker cut of scallop. You can also order this ala carte at $14.80 for 3 pieces. The Mother's Day Special Set Menu will be available from 1st to 14th May at both Yum Cha Chinatown and Changi. A huge thank you to Adam from @yumchasg for hosting us and @burpple for the kind invite! 🙆🏻

With Mother's Day round the corner, it's time to scout for a nice restaurant to bring your mom out for a nice meal! 🍴 Yum cha has rolled out a Mother's Day menu that will be available from 1st to 14th May. The $248++ for 6 pax menu includes the ginseng chicken soup (3rd photo of single serving) and salted egg stuffed scallop (last photo). Ginseng chicken soup is super comforting with the tender chicken and slight ginseng taste. While the salted egg stuffed scallop consist of a prawn and scallop enveloped in a fragrant crispy salted egg batter 🤤 🍴 Another dish you can add on is the Rose Floret Bun($16.80++/ set of 9). Why give your mom flowers that will die when you can give her pretty & tasty flower baos?? Pink has red bean and signifies gratitude & admiration. The red bean paste has a slight mandarin peel taste while the bao skin has a slight floral taste. Red bean is good for improving the qi and liver function. Purple represents faithfulness and appreciation to your mother's devotion. It contains purple sweet potato paste which is the healthiest of all sweet potatoes! 💪🏻🍠 It is high in antioxidants (to keep cancer at bay), high in vitamin A (for bright eyes), high in dietary fiber (reduce bad cholesterol)...(the list can go on, PM me for clearer explanation 😜😂) White represents gratefulness and it is filled w shredded sweetened coconut. The sweetness of the bao fillings are just nice, which would be suitable for our mothers!(as we all know, our mothers never liked overly sweet food) 🍴 Yum cha is taking reservations now! As the boiled chicken w ginseng needs reservations 2 days in advance to stew it to the right flavour and tenderness, make your reservations early! Show your mama some love! 😘 🍴 Thank you Adam from @yumchasg for hosting us and @burpple for the invite. #burpple #dimsum #yumcha #mothersday #sgfood

Wolfberries and Osmanthus Jelly [$4.20 for 3 Pieces] One of the several cold desserts available at Yum Cha, liked that it wasn't too cloyingly sweet and you can still get the osmanthus fragrance and floral sweetness. I prefer those that have a 'stickier' texture but this worked well as the ending to a dimsum meal!

Pork Knuckle Fritters ($18) This was super shiok. You get x5 very crispy deep fried pulled pork potato ball-like things dressed with sriracha mayo and served with a cucumber som tam. The batter of the fritter was what made it for me (of course, the tastiness of the filling and tenderness of the pulled pork also helped). They do work out to be $3.60 a fritter so... many small bites. 👍🏼

XYT Hokkien Mee ($16) I'm not usually a big fan of Hokkien mee because... I'm Team Black Hokkien Mee (🇲🇾) and also the siapsiap aftertaste of yellow mee does not sit well with me. However, this was deliciousss. The use of thick rice noodles ensured it wasn't too starchy (and siapsiap-free) however, it was not as "wok charred" as described in the menu. There was a generous serving of large prawns & clams and the overall flavour had the right amount of prawniness. Prawness? I'm going with prawniness. Service was excellent, our hostess came over to give recommendations and check on the food. Also, the interior of the place is a sight to behold: lanterns, kitsch posters, old school telephones and booby art. 👍🏼 I'd defo come back to try the rest of the menu.
