| 🍱 Still one of the most affordable 、 Portion-wise can do better 。... ~ · Bara-Chirashi Don · Assortment of seafood cubes on sushi rice. The long Q is still there but my portion have somehow shrunk. Quite disappointing. Nonetheless their anniversary is coming this month and I will be revisiting. Their Salmon Belly Teriyaki is a MUST TRY · Sushiro @sushirosingapore

For Value-For-Money Bara Chirashi Don According to Burpple Tastemaker Zhihui Lim, this cosy joint in Thomson Plaza serves one of the more affordable and value-for-money chirashi dons in Singapore. Priced at $12.80, the Bara Chirashi Don has a spot-on rice to sashimi ratio, which means you get satisfying bites of seafood with every mouthful. Burppler Hazel Low likes that the sashimi are thick and fresh, while Zhihui describes the sesame-flavoured rice to come topped with fresh portions of perfectly seasoned prawns, salmon, tuna, octopus and ikura. If you're in the mood to indulge without burning a hole in your pocket, the Premium Bara Chirashi Don ($24.80) sees a lot more (a mountain of it, in fact) of the fresh seafood — on pay day, perhaps? Sushiro's charms often garner a crowd, so be prepared to queue, even outside of peak mealtimes. Pro tip: Flash your Burpple app to enjoy Sushiro's set lunch specials for all rice bowls — add on $3 for soup and salad, or $5 for sashimi, soup and salad. Avg Price: $15 per person Photo by Burppler Jacelyn See

Bara Chirashi ($12.80) At $12.80, this is probably one of the more affordable, value-for-money barachirashi around, and I like the sashimi/rice ratio. Just nice for a satisfying lunch without feeling like I over ate, and still had space for chawanmushi ($3.20, smooth and tasty but could do with a little more ingredients - only had a mushroom slice and shrimp) Chunks of prawns/ salmon/ tuna/ octopus with ikura were relatively fresh, evenly mixed and not overly seasoned, and I loved the sesame flavour of the rice. All was good except some of the tuna cut didn’t seem quite right with the tendon(?) present, which was too tough to chew so the texture was ruined for me when it came to those pieces. Quite a pity but I’d say it was still a satisfyingly decent bowl overall without burning a hole in your wallet so I get why there was still a queue past-lunch. I didn’t have to queue so it was quite shiok 😂

Just thinking about this Classic Steak Don that I had fifty-six yukata bears ago from Sushiro Singapore, located within Thomson Plaza. Whilst massively renown for their oceanic endeavours, Sushiro has began introducing new beefy arsenal into their (seasonal and rotational) repertoire such as this steak bowl and their Spicy Yakiniku Don. The Classic Steak Don is a promising start, with each slice of steak walking the tightrope between roasty and baby tender soft with proficiency and surprising poise.

Bonito Grilled Eel Fried Rice, $13. [Lunch menu] When I read that it was fried rice, I instinctively prepared myself for minced unagi fried rice topped with bonito flakes (come on, at $13 in Tanjong Pagar, who wouldn’t think so?). Surprise surprise! Two chunks of eel with bonito flakes, chives, furikake, omelette shreds and seaweed. Mix everything together and viola! You’ve got yourself a delicious rice bowl. Grilled Pork Jowl Fried Rice ($18) Saw a review on Burpple's instagram and does look appetiIng. Went during lunch time, the waitress assigned was really nice, offering /explaining the set menu, etc. The fried rice was pretty good, onsen egg really give the dish some richness and jowl is chewy, yet tender. The glazing though, was something else 4.25/5

I ordered the seasonal soba which came with really large tempura prawns coated with a seasonal batter and tender chicken breasts and truffle oil. I found the combination a tad strange and it didn’t cut it for me. I should stick to my usual traditional favourites.

You’d never guess what salad this is. One of our friends is a regular here and he says that this is the bomb! It was love at first bite. Chicken skin salad which is so addictive. Can’t stop once you start.

Special Truffles Dashi Maki Tamago with Club Japanese Sauce Hands down the most decadent Dashimaki Tamago I have ever tasted, Nadai Fujisoba Ni-Hachi’s signature tamago is definitely a must-order. Soft yet firm, the layered block first arrives without any sauce and seeing just the lovely specks of truffles seasoned between the rolls was almost enough. Then the server pours over a generous amount of thick steaming sauce straight into the pan, which really gave the dish an extra oomph with the sweetness of crustaceans in the mix. Hence, highly recommended from one egg lover to another, I really enjoyed the deep aromatic flavours of the earthy truffles, savoury dashi-soy sauce, and sweet omelette. The Special Truffles Dashi Maki Tamago ($15) also had a really luxe mouthfeel with the shreds of crabmeat in their Club Japanese Sauce

$14 STEAK? $14 for steak frites, Salad and 2 eggs in a nice WiFi enabled cafe is really quite a steal (considering the portion, ambience and quality). While it’s not a drop dead yummy steak, it was nicely executed, with a little char on the top. I also loved how the sunny side ups were properly done with a flowy yolk!

200g of steak for just $15?! This Halal cafe has got to be the best spot in the whole of Tampines, their brunch menu looks even more amazing and crazily affordable. How is this possible @brothersinfinefood?! To think this spot was where I studied for 6 months every single day for my As, and SO MUCH HAVE CHANGED! I'll definitely be back for brunch and meanwhile, go there and try it for me, guys! 🚅 5 Tampines Avenue 3, #02-07 Tampines West Community Club, Singapore 529705. Interesting Grub In The East With the Downtown Line 3 now open, Singapore feels very much smaller. Finally made my way to this hipster place to try what they've got. I went for the Beef stew ($15). They actually use dark chocolate as 1 of the ingredients. Tastewise: the beef were tender, the sauce tasted creamy but IMO was bland and was lacking in perhaps spices or seasoning thus it was quite cloying (jelak) after a few spoonfuls. The good thing it was served piping hot. As for dessert, the Polenta ($9) was kinda a letdown IMO. It reminded me very much of a middle eastern semolina-syrupy cake called "basboussa". The cream was the consolation to me IMO 😁. Anyway, food aside, their coffees were quite impressive.

Plated desserts are more common in restaurants and dessert cafes. Don’t be surprised, you can also find beautifully plated desserts here at Brothers in Fine Food. We had a hard time deciding they all looked so good, but went with the Nagasari. Soft consistency caramelised bananas in a sweet gula melaka foam, crunchy sautéed coconut shavings and pandan crumbs all at once. . Nagasari at S$8. . Decent 1-for-1 Wagyu Buffet Rainy days ☔️like these make me miss these melt-in-your-mouth Wagyu Karubi 🐮and Gyu Tan 👅slices, lightly grilled Yakiniku style for the best flavours~ Mmmmm~~~ 😋💋💋💋 #tenkaichi is now having a 1-for-1 promo, so it comes up to about $67/pax for the premium set including free flow drinks 🍵! Not the most mind blowing buffet I've had, but quite ok for the amount of Wagyu you're having. ✌🏻💕 If you don't eat beef, there's a variety of seafood 🐟🦐 such as fresh and succulent scallops and cod fish, and the cooked food such as Unagi was good too! 🙆🏻🇯🇵 Just don't expect too much from the "service" here... 🙈

Wagyu Beef Buffet @$79.80++ The best beef buffet I ever been too. Have already eaten here a few times with friends. The beef is well marinated and the buffet includes sashimi, giant Hokkaido scallops. But the main dish is the BEEF! 🐄 🐄 #wagyulicious

Deluxe Buffet ($49++) There are two types of buffet, deluxe is the basic while premium is the one with wagyu. Go for the deluxe to save $ and if you're not iffy about beef quality, though the beef available for deluxe is already pretty good. Skip the pork, ox tongue and bone-in short rib and go for the Karubi (beef short rib) and Harami (outside skirt) and and and the large intestine 🙂 Alsooo get loads of salmon sashimi (there's tuna too) and the Saba which was surprisingly everyone's favourite item. It's really thickly cut and fresh. Now one of my favourite buffet places because of the Saba haha and really too much variety doesn't matter when you have a good selection of sashimi, seafood and BBQ meat. Costs $5 more for fri-sat, and I think $5 for drinks (but no don't fill up on drinks just get the iced water and eat more)

Didn't plan to post this but I thought I need to share this. 🔸 I just had the lunch set here from $10.80 onwards. Choose from sashimi with tempura ($16.80) , or really well grilled fish (seabream with mentaiko, or flounder at $14.80) with crispy skin and tender flesh, and it's inclusive of free flow of sides such as these stuffs here, fat salmon sushi, chawanmushi and takoyaki. And the food was surprisingly good. 🔸 The salmon sushi is still in my IG story. The meal here was a steal.

Durian Baked Alaska ($9) What an elegant-looking dessert! I'm so mesmerised by the presentation of it 😍 The outside is meringue that is blow-torched, encasing the durian ice cream. I find the meringue a little too sweet in addition to the already sweet ice cream. Nevertheless, it was indeed the most popular dessert on the table.

Har jeong kai chicken cutlet [$15++] One of the complimentary mains offered as part of @chopesg 's exclusive giveaway for the month of July. The thin slab of chicken thigh is marinated with prawn paste, coated and deep fried to a golden brown panko-crusted exterior. Served with mashed potatoes (physically mashed I guess 😅), side salad and a homemade pepper and ranch sauce, the chicken cutlet executed an ideal crispness it's well battered exterior, along with a pleasant crunch from the cereal crumbs coating. The interior was tender and juicy though the portion of meat was pretty much a mere thin layer 😥. Flavourwise, it was well marinated, with a flavourful and fragrant umami note from the prawn paste. The mashed potatoes are essentially potato chunks, soft albeit firm, well sautéed. The homemade ranch dressing (only served with the har jeong kai cutlet) added a pleasant tanginess to the otherwise heavy and sinful chicken cutlet. . . . #burpple

Squid ink seafood paella [$32++] By far the most expensive dish on the menu but the portion was really huge and filling! Fresh assorted seafood - mussels, prawns, squid to other poultry components- otah and lup cheong on a bed (or wok) of squid ink paella. Out of all the seafood components, my favorite was the prawns which were fresh, plump and juicy. The mussels were also juicy and chewy, with a prominent seafood-sque flavour. Coupled with a slight spiciness from the housemade otah and a sweet-smoky flavour of the lup cheong, my enjoyment subsided towards the end where the paella was charred at the base and edges, resulting in an unpleasant and undesirable burnt aftertaste . . . . #burpple

Pescados ($12) And California ($13.50) Burrito Featuring the lovely pescados (fish) burrito and California burrito! I particularly enjoyed the fish that was tender and coated in a crispy batter. The California burrito had steak, fries, sour cream, and cheese, but personally, I thought that the fries could have been more crisp. (I’d recommend the Carne Asada fries instead) Also, I’m not very sure why, but the skin of our burritos this time was softer than usual, which made me quite disappointed. Still, a really filling meal! Also: thanks to the burpple app, I got 50% off my second burrito too!! :)

Chicken Burrito with Guac ($14) This was an unexpectedly heavy burrito, but I'm glad that the quantity was paired with quality. I was especially surprised by the rice- my usual gripe about it is that it tends to be quite flavourless but my concern was for naught here. The rice was pleasantly firm to the bite and was nicely flavoured on its own. Although I'm usually fonder of the tortilla wrap in the burrito, this is one rare instance that I think I might just be as satisfied with a burrito bowl (which comes with only rice). The combination of all the ingredients was very tasty and I actually didn't need the hot sauce at all! This burrito wasn't quite the same as the ones I've had in US, and I'm not even mad about it. This was I felt a somewhat lighter version because it didn't send me to a usual food coma from the typical greasy, hearty Mexican fare. But don't get me wrong, this was by no means any less satisfying. I hope to return for their quesadillas soon!

Fish Tacos ($6.50 Each) (+$1 for guac I think) Skip the shrimp and beef tacos, the shrimp was weirdly rubbery and the beef was dry (could be because I went during their anniversary so the kitchen was overworked and they were just struggling to rush out the orders) The battered fish was crispy and well marinated, so the fish taco was definitely my favourite of the three 🐟

Pollo Asado Burrito ($12) I went to Muchachos lately when they celebrated their anniversary and had their wonderful 1 for 1 promotion. I haven't eaten much Mexican food in my life before, but this burrito is definitely 100% worth it, even at regular price! They're incredibly generous with all their ingredients, particularly the guacamole and the chicken, which was so well seasoned and tender. I was super pleased while eating this and remarked that it was so heavy that the way I was holding it felt like I was holding a baby and my friend agreed haha! What a great meal. Will definitely go back for more!!

Brunch at Upper Thomson after collecting my Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel from Grab HQ teeheehee. I feel like people were mumbling curses behind my back when I collected lolol • But anyway!! First KopiPass experience at Nook and Cranny (formerly Five by Five) went pretty well • Tried their recommended Chicken Bleu ($15.50): boneless chicken thigh stuffed with bacon and cheese served with orzo rice pasta and salad. Dk what herbs they baked the chicken in but wow 👍🏻👍🏻 For the Truffled Mac and Cheese ($14.50): the truffle oil really worked its magic here. This was my fave!! • Redeemed a freeeeee signature matcha latte (a must try at this cafe) and a hot mocha for myself! #burpple #kopipass #dqky

Chicken Bleu First time trying orzo pasta and it tasted great, with bacon bits mixed in. However, it was a tad too oily, and I need to complain about the chicken itself. It was juicy and tender, but they stuffed the inside with too strong a seasoning (?) filling(tasted like rosemary) and the bacon kinda fell apart instead of wrapping nicely round the chicken. My cheese was also served downwards, with the heat of the orzo melting it before I could properly cut into it. Poor execution and lack of consistency, as my friend's chicken bleu had melted cheese atop the chicken. Concept of the dish is good, but still quite a few misses, especially with the cheese.

Coconut Taro Ice Cream Almost like a coconut ice cream with lots of taro "ripples", the Coconut Taro Ice Cream (S$4.50) is one ice cream flavour you ought to try. But no worries if you are not ready to commit, because you can always ask for a spoonful to try before you buy.

Collagen Soba Set I personally like soba a lot, especially for that neat and fresh texture. Having said that, there are not many places just serving soba in Singapore. I had lunch over healthy Soba IKI. Service was fantastic. I had the collagen chicken soba as it is one of the recommended “localized” dish. The collagen soup was very thick and filling. The serving of chicken was very generous too. Over all I enjoyed it, and would like to try the more Japanese infused soba dishes next time!

Avocado Kaisen Tororo Soba ($15) Gluten free soba, made in-house with high quality ingredients imported from Japan; Healthy Soba Iki has quite a wide variety of local-inspired/ Japanese, cold/ hot soba. If soba is not your thing, there's always the option of rice bowls. This is my favourite of the night from the cold Soba section. Served with avocado, eggs, tuna and salmon chirashi with a refreshing cold dip - mix in the wasabi for a bit of flavour and a slight spicy kick. Soba had a good bite to it! Thank you @healthysobaiki for having us and #burpple for the kind invite.

Burpple Tastemaker Eatup at Healthy Soba IKI Made a trip done to Healthy Soba IKI recently with a couple of Burpple Tastemakers for a Burpple Tastemaker Eatup and tried a selection of their healthy buckwheat soba offerings — they have a menu that boasts quite a good mix of Japanese as well as locally inspired creations such as the Laksa Soba. My personal favourites would be the Collagen Chicken Soba from the Local Signature section of the menu and the Avocado Kaisen Tororo Soba from the Cold section. The former was almost akin to eating chicken rice after the ginger is mixed into the collagen chicken soup base which is not overly rich; comes with a rather generous portion of poached chicken that is immensely tender and also chili oil for those who can't do without chili when having Hainanese Chicken Rice. The Avocado Kaisen Tororo is the crowd pleaser; marinated cubes of raw fish and a lightly savoury cold dipping sauce that is pretty good on its own. Dessert was pretty good — never thought that matcha would work well against strawberry but the Matcha Strawberry Pudding proved us wrong with the bitter aroma of Matcha complimenting and counters the tartness of the strawberries really well. Thanks Healthy Soba IKI for hosting, and Burpple for the invite!

Healthy Sobas & Japanese Rice Bowls I know this cafeteria specialises in soba noodles, but my friend and I found the rice meal offer on FAVE more value-for-money so we got ourselves the Avocado Pepper Duck ($14) and Kaisendon ($15) instead. Compared to other Japanese rice bowls at the same price, I must say that they're really generous with the toppings which are of a good quality too. The avocado was perfectly ripe and creamy, the pepper duck was tender and packed with umami, and the raw fish cubes were fresh. Unfortunately, the rice was a little dry due to a lack of sauce and they could definitely do with more vinegar.

Say yes to side dishes made from scratch! Unlike frozen fries, the homemade fries has a soft flakey-ness of mashed potatoes on the inside 😋 If you notice there's mini black flakes on the fries, they're actually truffles. Seriously, I can't say no to truffles fries 😋🍟 Homemade onion rings are lighter and more flavourful than the greasy ones you might know. There are a variety of sauces that you can choose 😍 Best paired with Cheesy Mac Attack Burger 🍔 You can check out the review just two squares down. . Cheesy Mac Attack Burger is the reincarnation of your favourite mac & cheese. The two macaroni buns, that is moist and cheesy on the inside and crispy on the outside. And that's not all, you can also expect juicy ground sirloin patty stacked with bacon, caramelized onions and drizzled with cheddar cheese and arugula. The burger is rather a big size and I would recommend sharing with a friend. This burger is available until 30 Nov 2017, grab it before its all gone 🍔 ! . Cheesy Mac Attack Burger at S$18++ .
