Prawn White Bee Hoon ($17.80) Absolutely not worth it. Wanted to be a best-of-both-worlds fusion of prawn mee and white beehoon, but this ultimately fell flat. The broth, which is arguably the lynchpin to a good plate of white beehoon, tasted so bland with only a hint of 'prawniness'. Though there was a sizeable portion of pork ribs and 1 big prawn, there was so little beehoon that I actually had to double check that the menu indicated it was one person's portion - felt more like it was for half a person instead. Having grown up eating the original Sembawang White Beehoon, I think it's almost blasphemy for them to call this a White Beehoon. And at this price point even? Ptooi!

Prawn Soup Regular ($6.80) The regular refers to the size, but I would say that it also applied to the quality of this prawn mee. Broth was very light in flavour and not 'gao' enough. Decent amount of ingredients with fish cake, pork slices, and prawn paste ball. Just 2 small prawns though, eh. Would take Beach Road prawn mee over this, any day. But their soy sauce was really good, try it.

Da Shi Jia 3.75⭐ Bought the 1 for 1 deal during Chope year end sale and only redeem it on the last day before it expires. The combo set comes with white beehoon, a drink and a side. We waited for quite long for the food as it's full house, seems like everyone is rushing to redeem the deal before it expires. Even the sides we want is also sold out. The white beehoon is mediocre as the beehoon is slightly drier and the broth didnt infused deeply into the beehoon. 葱香味牛蛙 This is the only bullfrog pot that is not spicy. It tastes equally good. The rest are spicy from one to four "chilly". I enjoyed the appetizer dish 汉阳招牌鸡, spicy mala chicken that's similar to 口水鸡 but much more sophisticated. It can also serve as the sauce to deep in if you want the bullfrog to have a little more spice.

Perilla Flavoured Frogs Perilla Flavoured Frogs ($39.80) . Missing this addictive tray of froggy goodness @wahkungfu_sg . The frog meat is first fried then left to simmer in the flavourful umami laden gravy elevated by the perilla leaves resulting in a tender texture with a thin crusty exterior. The soupy gravy was both slurpworthy and went well drizzled on rice. Thankfully, they offered free soup top-up! We opted for the mildly spicy version so that we could really taste the dish and not need to down liquids and fill ourselves up too quickly. Special mention also to the lamb skewers ($1.20/ea min 4 sticks per order). It was so good we ordered a 2nd portion in a flash. Prices here is a bit on the high side though.

Lemon Yakult & Lemon Lime ($3.00++ Each) I especially loved the Lemon Yakult. 👍🏻 If I remember correctly, there is bottle/jug version for the drinks at $8. Highly recommend both drinks to pair with the spicy food that this restaurant offers.

双椒味牛蛙 Red & Green Pepper Frog ($39.80++) Was intimidated by the exterior of this restaurant but decided to try it after walking past quite a few times. 😂 The frogs were fried before being stir fried with the red and green pepper broth. Quite a generous amount of frogs given, just nice for 2 big eaters to eat with rice. I especially love the garlics that were being stir fried with the frogs, so soft that they melted in my mouth 🤤 Highly recommended! Will definitely be back to try other flavours, including the soup versions.

Spicy Frog Ordered the 怪椒味 aka the spiciest flavor of the frog pot. The frogs are fried before cooking on the hotplates of your choice of flavour. So always rmb to submerge them a little more before eating. Been eating here from Chinatown and then now going to their newer outlet at Bugis Cube. There's discounted reservations using Eatigo.

🍴egg skewers grey egg cubes (the color isn’t sus, but i forgot what ingredient makes them like that) in a salty spice blend. texture is similar to a hybrid of tamagoyaki and steamed tofu. think of a firm, sweet steamed egg tofu. i believe the minimum order for this is at least 2 skewers/chuan!!

la zi ji spicy fried chicken unsolicited warning pls don’t be silly and just ask for 辣鸡 which literally means spicy chicken but sounds like rubbish😍😍 numbing spicy chicken in sichuan spices coupled with some bits of fried fatty chicken skin and crispy dried chili. wish a few bits of the crispy chicken were less dry tho!!

DaXi - Part 4/4 As @daxisg specialises in dumplings, both the dumpling dishes were naturally praiseworthy. However the noodles were decent and didn't sufficiently impress us. I'll reserve judgment as there are many non-dumpling dishes which we haven't tried.

DaXi - Part 3/4 We also ordered the 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗮𝘄𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗹𝗹 𝗡𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝗽 ($8.80), a dish that I've never seen before. The three pieces of beancurd prawn rolls (aka 𝘧𝘶 𝘱𝘪 𝘫𝘶𝘢𝘯腐皮卷) were filled with fresh, crunchy prawns, although I question the sagacity of placing them in soup as they quickly lost their crispness. I also thought the soup would have a different flavour profile from that which came with the dumplings, but sadly, they were the same.

DaXi- Part 2/4 The 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗰𝗸 𝗣𝗮𝗻-𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱 𝗗𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 ($11.80, 5 pcs) fared better. The crispy "disc" provided a wonderful textural contrast with the dumplings filled with succulent smoked duck slices.

Pan-fry Chives & Pork Dumplings ($10.80/ 5 pcs) You can choose to have their Signature dumplings in 3 different styles - boiled, pan-fried, or in a home-brewed chicken superior broth. Dumplings had a very crispy crust, and flavourwise not bad although wouldn't say it's amazing. If you're nearby in the area and are looking for a fuss-free meal, it's a decent option to satisfy some Taiwanese food & dumplings cravings! Overall Rating: 7.5/10

Daxi stir fried noodles ($9.80) Tbh wasn't expecting much from this but somehow the noodles had this flavour that was actly pretty good?! Not sure if it was scallion oil or smth else but it was fragrant.

Pork Floss Cheese Egg Roll ($6.80) For fans of Taiwanese food, here's a place you can check out to get your cravings fixed! Visited the Guoco Tower outlet and their new Egg Roll series caught my attention 🤩. Pork Floss Cheese Egg Roll ($6.80) I'm a huge fan of egg rolls, and I liked that the outer pancake layer here was chewy, with a generous amount of pork floss - but was a little dry because of that. Couldn't taste cheese as well, but I enjoyed the sweet-savoury sauce used for this.

Salt & Pepper Oyster Mushrooms Wahaha indulgent and can't go wrong.

Pan-fried Signature Dumplings This restaurant is apparently known for dumplings, where you can choose the style, either boiled, brewed in broth, or this. I thought these were fine.

Lu Rou Egg Roll Not a common Taiwanese egg roll flavour, but very ordinary.

Egg crepes First time trying the egg crepe from DaXi! Got the pork floss cheese egg crepe roll ($5.80)! Opened the takeaway box and I was slightly disappointed by how it looked. Was actually expecting something crispier (think along the lines of shilin crepes). Turns out their version seems to be the soft and floury kind. can’t help but feel slightly disappointed with the meal. Too doughy for me! I prefer crispier crepes like crispy prata that kind. The cheese was also not really melted. But the combination of porkfloss, egg and cheese is good! But if you will like some affordable takeaway food in the novena area, this is still decent to get la.

New Fave Bbq Skewer Hangout Now that bbq box has become hipster and boring, I've been shopping around for a new bbq skewer hangout and this one has legit China feel. MSG galore, raucous crowd and $6 beers. Generous portions so don't over order. 💡: If stumped by the mysterious queuing system (there is none) , just give up and go to the end of the street for BKT instead. 🚗 : Easy (by geylang standards) parking along Lor 11- either street if you're lucky or at the ERP carpark between lor 9 and 11.
