This homegrown spot has come a long way in crafting that authentic izakaya experience. Come with friends to share a big bottle of house sake ($138 for 1.8L) and order these for a surefire win: fresh Maguro Yukke ($12) with a splash of sesame and chilli oil, the creamy, mentaiko-loaded Rosti Mentai ($8) and the always good Chef Selection Skewers ($18 for five skewers).
1-for-1 with #burpplebeyond!
Early birthday celebration for my dear friend at this cozy izakaya @shunjuuizakaya which I have heard many good reviews of. The mixed grill set lunch consist of pickled radish, rice with minced meat and mushroom, miso soup and 5 charcoal grilled skewers.
There were leek, beef short rib, mushroom stuffed with minced chicken, asparagus rolled with pork and the highly rated scallops rolled with pork. Indeed, it was the most interesting of the lot as the nori wrapping the juicy scallops elevates the sweetness and contributes a touch of brininess. Similarly rolled with pork, the asparagus was one that I also enjoyed for its crunchiness. The pork belly here was tender but not overly oily, exuding an alluring smokiness through the grill.
Thanks to #burpplebeyond, we enjoyed 2 mixed grill set lunch at the price of 1. With the burpple beyond deal, you get to choose a deal between charcoal grill and set lunch.
Must get the truffle oil angel hair pasta / octopus fried rice / their pork belly!!!!!
We have been going to this place since it first opened nearly 20 years ago. Prices have gone up quite a bit, and are now on the high side for the ambience and service. The food is still as reliable and diverse as ever. Recommended are all parts of chicken (balls, cartilage, heart, liver, gizzards, butt, skin, etc), puffer fish, taufu in century egg sauce, pork cheek, ginko nuts, garlic fried rice, Shunjuu salad. The sake list is long, but cold beer also goes well with the yummy grilled dishes.
