I had very lofty expectations for this establishment, not least because of its legendary reputation.

๐—ข๐˜†๐˜€๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ผ๐—บ๐—น๐—ฒ๐˜๐˜๐—ฒ ($6/8/12) isn't a deeply complicated dish, but rather a nuanced dish which requires precision for perfect batter. Their batter had undoubtedly crispy spells, but not quite the biscuit-like revelation I expected (for that check out Maddie's Kitchen). Still, the mingling with sloppy starchy bits provided an enjoyable textural variation.

I also found the chili magnificently spirited and zesty. It is imperative to take a swig in the magic sauce as it bulldozed through the heaviness and also provided a perfect foil for the oysters. Perhaps standards have dropped since the founder's passing, but it's still worth a try.

Whereโ€™s your favourite place to get your oyster omelette (or luak) fix? If youโ€™re in Kovan, check out Simon Road Oyster Omelette at Hougang Street 21 (Kovan). They whip up the crispy version of this calorie indulging delight. Decided to try this after reading about this place for years.

The batter is fried for a long time that contributes to its very crispy exterior. But the inside remains reasonably starchy and gooey giving it a good balance overall. The oysters were plump and juicy and there was a good coating of starch. Within the dish you will get pockets of fluffy fried egg omelette which is an important element of the entire dish. Not to mention the chilli sauce is fresh, tangy and zesty.

I thought the batter wouldโ€™ve been crispier based on what I read about this place previously. Perhaps it wasnโ€™t the best day when I went but Iโ€™ll be open to trying them again.

Havenโ€™t had their orh jian since the most recent relocation and finally got around to satisfy the craving! Always love how crispy it is with just the perfect amount of gooey-ness. Oysters were fresh and plump. So shiok!

Was craving so badly for a plate of Oyster Omelette and landed here thanks to a quick search on Burpple! Probably one of the best Iโ€™ve had in a long time, slightly pricier but has everything I love in an orh jian. Fresh plump oysters (ours had 6-7 pieces), super crispy exterior, just the right amount of gooey-ness, well seasoned and not too oily. There were also bits of crunchy chye poh mixed in! The medium and large are at $8 and $12 each.
