Small, minimalist aesthetic café with unique and limited offering, but is very popular. I came after lunchtime hoping to get my hands on their donuts to no avail. I had the strawberry pistachio instead, nice cake crust and comforting combination of the ingredients! Not for those who don't like nutty/strong pistachio flavor or texture as advised by the staff. I also got the osmanthus tea which is imported from Taiwan, which complements the cake well.

We specifically went to Simple Cafe for their stuffed donuts and ended up getting more of their bakes and coffee. A not-so-hidden gem in the area that I am looking forward to their new launches in the future.

The beverage menu is kept simple here, other than black and white coffee, there’s mocha, chocolate, uji matcha and three types of tea. You can opt for a swap to oat milk with a top up of $1.

Thought their hot chocolate was average unfortunately, it was a bit more milky than I would have liked. The quaint shop space however, with a good playlist of mandopop was very lovely to chill in.

Or doughnut, if you will. Exciting sounding Yam ‘Nian Gao’ flavour aside, the dough on its own is worth a shoutout. It’s fluffy, light, and bouncy, yet chewy and stretchy like that of those super yumz regular bakery hotdog buns — all at the same time. Buttery and sweet like a good brioche dough, but not overly rich as well so you can really go at it without stopping. Now what I liked about the yam filling was that it was really really smooth and I could really taste the yam. I did find it a little bland though; I’d have personally preferred it to be a touch sweeter or just more aggressive, but I can see how many would enjoy how light this was.

Expensive but very tasty. Not sweet and the sweet potato filling is so unique.

I’ll be back, especially since this cafe is so near my home.

𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐤𝐞 ($8; 3 ⭐️) - unfortunately their version missed the mark - it was dense, heavy, with a faint cheese flavour that was overpowered by the milk and cream. The cake also lacked the ‘burn’ that we associate in a ‘basque’ cheesecake.
