If you are new to this zichar dish, it is essentially marinated chicken cuts in the umami prawn paste mixture, before coating it with a batter and cooking it into the deep fryer. Packed with flavour and bursting with juices from each bite, this is one place to get your prawn paste chicken fix if you are around the area. Do note that they only sell their zichar dishes in the evenings and they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays each week.

Come evening, most if not all the stalls would have already closed except for one, Sin Ho, which comes to life for their wok frying skills. I have previously reviewed them a few times over the past years and I am happy to say that even till now, their standard and consistency is still top notch. Dare I say, they might even have the best har cheong gai aka prawn paste chicken in this area and beyond. The small portion comes with 6 pieces of well marinated chicken pieces that you will totally not regret ordering, and in fact will want even more after finishing it. Some places either have a thick batter or the marination is not able to seep through into the meat, but here at Sin Ho, everything works from the crispy outer to the juicy meat texture. For people who are not able to accept prawn paste chicken due to the pungent aroma, give this a try as the prawn paste is not super heavy, in-your-face kind of intensity.

Whilst this stall won’t receive that much hype as compared to the other young hawkerpreneurs, these har cheong gai ($7) are impressive on its own while the other zichar dishes here are outstanding as well. They definitely didn’t scrimp on the shrimp paste as each bite brings an aromatic umami flavour that will definitely make you come back for more!

Har Cheong Kai - the skin sports a beautiful red shade, and stayed crisp right till the end. Each wing is so well marinated that you can taste the prawn paste in every bite.
