Back at my favourite old-school Sing Hon Loon Bakery for some buns! This time round, I laid my hands on the red bean buns ($1.90 for a pack of 6). ๐Ÿ˜Š
.
Besides the filling, the top layer of the bun is my favourite part! โค Toasted to a perfect brown, it releases an alluring fragrance, with added aroma from the sprinkle of white sesame on top. ๐Ÿคค The bread is slightly more dense than usual but still sufficiently soft. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป Liked that it is quite substantial & will definitely fill you up, unlike the airy kind from some bread chains where u hardly feel anything in your stomach after eating 1 bread. ๐Ÿ˜…

The taste of the red bean filling is pretty nostalgic - nothing fanciful nor exquisite but yet evokes a sense of familiarity & agreement to my tastebuds. Sweet but goes so well with the plain bun! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹

Definitely the kind of bread that I would go for! ๐Ÿ’•

Back at Sing Hon Loong for my dose of old-school bread! ๐Ÿž With packs of buns going for only $1.60-$1.90 โœŒ๐Ÿป (unless you ask for spreads like kaya & butter on your white bread which they will slather generously! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜), this is my to-place to grab some value-for-money buns! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Freshly baked daily with no preservatives, these soft & fluffy โ˜๏ธ buns from this 24-hour bakery are more than enough to send me on cloud nine! ๐Ÿ’• LOAving this so much! This is really a must visit if youโ€™re a carbs lover & happen to be around the Balestier area! ๐Ÿ’ฏ

Recently I did an โ€˜interviewโ€™ with @munch.app & it got me brainstorming on what my top 3 favourite food are. ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” As a foodie who doesnโ€™t have a picky palate to begin with, this was certainly a tough question cuz I truly like almost everything! ๐Ÿท I scrolled through my IG & realized that the kind of food that really touches my heart are either home-cooked food by my mum โคโคโค, or cheap traditional eats (like Min Jiang Kuehs, Ang Ku Kuehs etc.) that everyone can afford. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

Cuz thereโ€™s goodness in simplicity. Donโ€™t you agree? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Speaking of which, it brought me back to Sing Hon Loong for my dose of old-school bread! ๐Ÿž With a whiff of bread aroma from metres away, it is almost irresistible to grab a loaf! ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค But fret not, the breads here cost only about $1.60-$1.90 โœŒ๐Ÿป (unless you ask for spreads like kaya & butter on your white bread which they will slather generously! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜) Alternatively, get the plain ones & apply your own spreads, or simply eat it on its own cuz itโ€™s THAT GOOD! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Chosen the classic coconut buns & red bean buns.

Fluffy! Fillings brought back memories of old school taste.
Incredibly soft bread indeed!

Once a while, got these to overcome the cravings.

Somehow, these plain-looking buns, breads & baGUETTEs that look unassuming GETs me ๐Ÿคค more than pretty cakes do. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Filled with the aroma of freshly baked breads that u can smell from miles away, this is almost heaven on Earth for bread lovers. ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜ Yes, I am back again at my favourite bakery in Whampoa, Sing Hon Loong!

Freshly baked daily with no preservatives, I simply love their crusty baguettes - the loud crunch when the auntie sliced up my baguette was so gratifying! ๐Ÿ’• Even more so when i put the crispy sides with fluffy centre into my mouth! ๐Ÿ˜‹

Indeed a taste of nostalgia! โคโคโค

While we didnโ€™t get these hot out of the oven, they were still fluffy and soft. I couldnโ€™t help squishing them many times just to watch them bounce back into shape.

The coconut filling was a little lopsided as my first three bites didnโ€™t have any filling and I thought I bought a kosong bun. However, I soon realised that wasnโ€™t the case. They are generous with the filling, and it isnโ€™t too sweet. I love how sweet gula melaka juice slowly fills your mouth when you chew, and the grated coconut has a lovely texture too.

Overall I found that I preferred the red bean bun the most, followed by the curry bun, and then the coconut buns. Thatโ€™s not to say theyโ€™re not good though! If you were born in Singapore in the 90s or earlier, these will definitely take you down memory lane to a time when traditional bakeries were much more common.
