Sinpopo Restaurant (Joo Chiat)

712 Wishlisted
An ultra-retro environment that serves famous local cuisine in Joo Chiat. Sinpopo Brand may not strike you as a date kinda place, but it does bring a fun element to the night. Although the food is not quite rave-worthy, the idea of sharing an ice ball in a laid back 50s style eatery playing oldies on the 'radio' can be quite charming. Perhaps you could take a stroll along Joo Chiat Road after dinner, stop by Sinpopo, talk for hours about your childhood, and just enjoy each other ;)

Recommended. Very fragrant rice and prawn paste chicken was really good.

one of its kind. every durian lover should try. if you’re not a durian lover, you should try it too.

Honestly the flavours, unsurprisingly, approximate ondeh ondeh due to the similar taste profiles(their ondeh ondeh cake is lacking in pandan aroma tho). It was good but they always brulee the top in advance, leaving a chewy layer of caramelised sugar on top when they leave it out. Major pet peeve(some things u can do in advance, some things you cant)

Unmistakable depth of flavour of the king of fruits, but in the vessel of a rather light cream. Nothing much to complain about, except that if you're able to take away, you're saving on 10% svc lol

best deal as we get to try most of their menu side dishes which comes with a surprise of free flow fragrant rice and sauce.

($28 / sinpopo kopi peng $6 / horlicks & maltese’s $8)

Nasi Lemak Set for 2 ($28)
Been years since my last visit to @sinpopobrand but my decision on what to order remained the same. Craving that luncheon meat crisps and the abundance of side dishes that came with the nasi lemak set, ordering this was a no-brainer. The set came with rojak, curry potatoes, sambal fishballs, luncheon meat crisps, marinated pork belly and har cheong chicken. Har cheong chicken here is one of the best I’ve had. Fragrantly pungent, plump and juicy with a fluffy light crispy crust. Luncheon meat crisps is such an addictive snack to munch on and the marinated pork belly portion was just so generous. Oh did I also mention the rice served with a soft centered egg? The rice is free flow and reminded me of the rice from nasi lemak packets wrapped jn banana leaf except this was served warm.
