Located in an old kopitiam opposite Shake Shack, this stall only sell soup version of Bak Chor Mee. So die hard fans of dry Bak Chor Mee can stop reading this review now.
Arrived at 1pm and found a queue with 8 in front of me. Waited for about 15 mins. Ordered mee kia, large portion for $6 and added a half boiled egg for $0.70. You can add pepper, spring onions and sliced chilli but there was no lard to be found. Cook will add fried garlic for you.
The soup is legit good, full of meat flavour and not from salt or MSG. Inside you get three dumplings, couple of meat balls and loads of Bak Chor. Break the egg yolk and stir into the soup to give it a more silky taste. Imagine a Tai Hwa Pork Noodles soup version with egg.
Kopitiam can be very crowded during lunch time as the roast meat and handmade noodles stalls are equally popular. Go earlier if possible.
This place is a hidden gem considering most of the soup bak chor mee are located in the east. I ordered the large bowl($5.50), which had a quite few meatballs and wantons! The soup was heavenly and I'm certain I'll be coming back soon to have this again!
Offering only one item on their menu with different noodle types, this soup-based bak chor mee hidden in a corner hawker is a hidden gem for warm and hearty soup. Made from the long simmering of pork bone, the cloudy broth had a stronger meat flavour than most with piquant pepper notes.
We especially enjoyed the flavourful handmade meatballs that were firm yet tender; Just wished there was more than 2 of them. The pork wanton was good but forgettable. We liked both the silky smooth kway teow and the QQ mee hoon kueh which had a nice chew.

A pipping hot bowl of Mee Pok soup was served to us shortly after we ordered. This comforting bowl has generous serving of springy noodles, meatballs, wanton dumplings & minced meat. Green onions and chilli padi was also served on the sides so you can add in yourself if you like them. Broth were cooked with pork bones thus itโs super flavourful towards a lil milky, not too salty for our liking! Itโs so irresistible and satisfying, we enjoyed it so much! โ

Fans of Bedok style bak chor mee (minced pork noodles) and are working in CBD should definitely check this place out.
Soon Heng Pork Noodles is located in a coffee shop along Neil Road. They only sell the soup version of bak chor mee ($4/5) which is largely favoured by most easties (as opposed to the dry version). Thereโre four types of noodles to choose from mee kia (which I ordered), mee pok, mee tai mak and kway teow. Iโve been wanting to try this place for a long time and only managed to try this very recently.
Pork thigh bones are boiled for 7 to 8 hours overnight to give the soup a rich and robust flavour, and this contributes to its murky appearance. The soup contains lots of yummy bits of minced pork (bak chor) and thereโs no spoonful of soup that will taste one dimensional. Best of it all was that the soup didnโt have MSG and that means that thereโs no lingering aftertaste that will make one thirsty.
The mee kia was springy and didnโt have a strong alkaline taste. But Iโd recommend those who dislike alkaline-based noodles to go for the other noodle choices.
Dumplings are handmade and were packed with minced pork and dried sole fish. Although I felt the filling would be better if it wasnโt moulded into a paste.
I was hoping for some fried lard bits as what I saw in earlier reviews but was devoid of them. Nevertheless, it was a great bowl of bak chor mee that Iโd recommend for breakfast/ lunch if youโre in the area.
