Wanton Mee (S$4)

Came to try Double Spring Teochew Kway Chap but it was closed, so we picked a long queue to join πŸ˜‚ Their wanton mee is the traditional old school type with a chilli strong of haebi. I wasn’t a big fan as the chilli overwhelmed and the noodles were a bit too doughy and soft for my liking.

What makes a good plate of Wanton Noodles? πŸ€” To me, all the various elements play a part – the noodles, wantons, char siew & not forgetting the sauce. & Soon Kee Wanton Mee (πŸ“Pek Kio #01-44) does it right! πŸ’―
.
You know it's good stuff when a stall ony sells 1 or 2 dishes - in this case, only wanton mee & dumpling noodles! ✌🏻 It's either a long queue or no queue (cuz sold out by 12.30pm) so you gotta be early! πŸ˜…
.
I really liked the texture of their egg noodles 🍜 - springy with a firm bite βœ” The soy sauce & chilli that packs a fiery punch 🌢 coat the noodles, making every bite a flavour bomb! 🀀🀀🀀 Very spicy though so be warned! πŸ”₯
.
Don't worry as there is a small bowl of light yet flavourful soup with homemade wantons πŸ₯Ÿ to extinguish the fire! πŸ’• The dumplings were plump with well-seasoned minced meat filling with a good chew. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹ The wanton skin was thin & silky smooth which held the generous filling nicely. πŸ‘πŸ»
.
Their char siew was relatively lean but not overly tough, which was to my liking. ❀ Carried a nice char for that deep aroma 😊
.
Epitome of a good plate of wanton mee! 🌟

Their wanton noodle use the black sauce but I felt the noodle was a bit hard to chew. It also somehow taste oily to me. $3.50

Simple looking but delicious πŸ˜‹ especially for its XO Style chilli sauce.
Long queue even for a Monday morning.

Home Made Char Siew Wanton Noodle @ Soon Kee Wanton Mee 🍜
*****
Queue or no queue? Guess everyone who is in the line think like this.πŸ€” Saw a couple of guys leaving the queue after a while.🚢🏾
.
This is the second time we joined the queue. First time we gave up and bought the prawn mee stall instead. After a while, we ordered takeaway Wanton Noodle $3.5. We tasted the noodle and it is not as springly as we would have liked. The highlight are their own in house roasted Char Siew & Wanton (3 wontons in the pack). 🍲
.
We feel so stuffed by the gigantic noodle. Not quite satisfied with the overall Chili taste. If visit Pek Kio market again, we have some idea which queue to join instead.πŸ‘ŒπŸ€“
