They have hardly changed the menu over the last 20 years. It is simple, healthy, homey food but so delicious and addictive. In addition to the soups, we always order the same dishes when we come here: samsui ginger chicken, hometown tofu, Shan fu leaves, steamed minced pork, olive rice. Even the waiters are homey and friendly - the culture of this place is strong indeed. Reasonable prices too.

Finally got to try this well-advertised samsui chicken, and seemed like every table ordered a plate. The chicken is well cooked, tender and juicy, half thigh and half breast. Portion is good for the price as well.
If you happen to be a Chinese soup lover, do try their soups as well, quite good standard for the price ($6-10++)

Review of Holland Village outlet. Same winning combo across all branches: delicious, homey food; friendly service never leaving our tea glass half full; reasonable prices. Unlike at say, the Crystal Jade Kitchen outlets, standards have been consistent over decades.

Fresh prawns and egg toufu in an addictive tomato and egg sauce with a hint of garlic and ginger flavour . This dish goes so well with rice .

The only draw back was the price 😲.

For more value - opt for the sambal toufu Prawns at Tian wai Tian at opal crescent :)

Silky smooth, the chicken itself is hard to beat. Slap on the addictive ginger sauce (you can also buy a bottle to bring home!) in a crunchy lettuce wrap ($19.90 for half a chicken) and you've got yourself an epic dinner.

With over 15 outlets around the island, this local restaurant chain is the place to head to when the chicken craving strikes. Dishes here are meant to be shared, not eaten alone, making it great for big group situations. Ironically, the most well-received dish at The Soup Restaurant is not a soup, but instead the Samsui Ginger Chicken (from $19.90). The simple dish, which used to be enjoyed by Samsui women once a year during Chinese New Year, features slices of steamed chicken skilfully cut and served alongside a pile of lettuce leaves and a pool of addictive ginger-sesame oil dip. The umami rich sauce is so addictive that customers can purchase a bottle at the counter to take home. At the VivoCity outlet, you get the best of both worlds — Cantonese dishes as well as a selection of hearty dim sum. Order the tasty Earthern Bowl Carrot Cake ($4.50), Crispy Prawn Cheong Fun ($5.90) and the Ha Kao ($5.50) that comes highly recommended by Burppler Mok XC!
