Chanced upon the social media pages of Spring Chicken Western Food as we were scrolling through the phone one day β€” owned by Heng Kitchen Catering whom are the very same people who also run other coffeeshop stalls such as Ming Ji Charcoal HK Roasted Delight and η”°ιΈ‘ηŽ‹ε Claypot Frog Leg Porridge & BBQ, Spring Chicken Western Food is located within a coffeeshop named Kim Keat Food and Drinks Centre located at Blk 260 Kim Keat Avenue. Much like their neighbouring stalls; one serving up tzechar and the other serving up Indian cuisine, Spring Chicken Western Food takes up a space that seems to have been originally meant for two stall spaces for its operations. Spring Chicken Western Food does not really differ much from most other western cuisine stalls that are situated in the neighbourhood β€” the menu comprises of sections dedicated to Main Course, Pasta & Rice, Burgers & Hotdogs, as well as Finger Foodies. One noteworthy thing that Spring Chicken Western Food does is how they do offer a variety of Daily Side Dishes; the section features six different side dishes β€” no idea how it works but we guess they would rotate them around across different days. Interestingly, the stall also provides a complimentary bowl of chicken minestrone soup that patrons can help themselves with by the side of stall as well.

What had drawn us to give Spring Chicken Western Food a go would be their Cheesy Chicken Corden Bleu. A dish that is an utter favourite of ours, Chicken Corden Bleu is also quite a tough find around the island as well with only a few establishments seems to be serving the dish or a variant of the dish. For those who need an introduction to the dish, the Chicken Corden Bleu essentially is a dish featuring a deep-fried chicken cutlet that is rolled with ham and cheese in between. The Cheesy Chicken Corden Bleu at Spring Chicken Western Food also sees a gravy coming along with the Chicken Corden Bleu, and is served with Garlic Toast, French Fries and Coleslaw on the side as well.

We wasted no time in giving the Chicken Corden Bleu a go β€” already sliced into halves upon serving, the Chicken Corden Bleu reveals the oozy melted cheese and the slice of ham within; the deep-fried chicken coming in a crispy, golden-brown batter. We liked how the slab of chicken did not feel greasy in any way; some might find the chicken a little dry for their liking though it does sit somewhat alright with us considering how the melted cheese provides some moisture to the meat as well. The oozy and stretchy melted cheese as well as the slab of ham both provided some form of contrasting savouriness to the dish; each giving an own dimension of flavours though it was interesting how the gravy here was more likened to one involving chicken stock that one could usually find accompanying mash potatoes β€” all that with a bit of black pepper for a slightly punchier flavour. The accompanying French Fries were decent; that would suit more to those who prefer softer fries though these were reasonably seasoned with salt for flavour. That could also be said the same about the slice of Garlic Toast which seems to be lightly toasted but still had a soft, fluffy interior β€” wish it could have been a bit more garlicky though we are ones who just can’t get enough of garlic spread. The coleslaw came chilled as per what we would have preferred; providing a refreshing, cool crunch with a milky hint of flavours that was a good break between all the fried elements here.

Having tried only one single dish from Spring Chicken Western Food, it probably would not be sufficient to conclude about the quality of food at Spring Chicken Western Food. That being said, we did feel that the Cheesy Chicken Corden Bleu was pretty satisfying β€” one that would most certainly appeal to those whom have been looking around hard for the dish considering its rather rare appearance around the island, though we did feel that the side dishes could probably be a little bit more well-executed if compared against more modern western cuisine stalls around the neighbourhoods; Spring Chicken Western Food does still feel a little old-school when it comes to that even though its menu offerings does not seem to suggest so. The complimentary bowl of Chicken Minestrone Soup was actually pretty well done; prominent hint of tomato whilst being a little peppery β€” comes with loads of ingredients like vegetables, carrots and tomatoes as well. One thing that really affected the dining experience for us though was their cutlery β€” the knifes provided by the stall in particular features blades so thin that they warped around and nearly snapped as we slice through the Chicken Corden Bleu; possibly the weakest knives we had came across thus far considering how some plastic knives might have done a better job. Otherwise, the price point of the dishes at Spring Chicken Western Food can be said as pretty affordable; one could get a main dish starting from $3.00 all the way to $11.50 β€” the lowest priced being the Classic Beef Burger and Crispy Fish Burger, while the priciest being the Beef Steak Rice / Spaghetti and the Ribeye Steak. The Cheesy Chicken Corden Bleu costs $6.90 β€” one of the dishes that falls into the average price point of the items in the menu. We would see ourselves returning to Spring Chicken Western Food to scratch that cravings for Chicken Corden Bleu in the future; a rendition that is well-executed enough considering how difficult a find the dish is around the island!
