These mochi-esque balls, with a molten gula melaka filling literally bursts open when you bite into them. Not only are these visually appealing, the texture and filling will make you keep popping them into your mouth. Thanks for the sweet gift Karl!

One good way is of course to have some chilled traditional desserts aka tang shui 糖水which is a lifesaver in such unbearable heat. The Chinese Potion is a newly launched home-based business selling such traditional brewed 糖水, prepared fresh daily and each bowl comes chock full of ingredients. Each of the ingredients used in the 糖水 concoctions is carefully selected to nourish the health and benefit skin rejuvenation such as snow fungus, peach gum, snow lotus seed, which aid in natural collagen production in the body.

Retailing at $6 per bowl, there is a total of 4 糖水 to choose from, with more information available in their Instagram page. My favourite out of the 4 will be the peach gum, which comes with diced apple cubes and the osmanthus which lends a floral aroma.

There is a minimum order of 5 bowls for each delivery and the delivery charge ranges from $7-$10 depending on the location. To order, simply WhatsApp to 9763 5766.

One such easy-to-prepare and comfort food recipe that we can all make is the Japanese curry. The ingredients are fairly easy to get and all it takes is less than 30 minutes for you to whip up a meal. To save time, you first boil some carrots and potatoes before cutting them up into cubes. Next, you heat up a pan with oil and stir-fry the meat (in my case, I used chicken fillet or you can even use minced pork), onions, carrots and potatoes for approximately 5 minutes till brown. Once that is done, you add water and simmer the ingredients till its fully cooked before you switch to low heat and add in the S&B Golden Curry Sauce Mix. Stir the mixture well till the sauce mix is completely melted down and it thickens slightly. The final step is to pour it over your preferred choice of rice or noodles, in this case, I used the udon noodles.

Recipe as follows for this homemade muah chee using the trusty rice cooker.

1) The magic ratio is 2 portions of glutinous rice flour to 1.5 portions of water.
2) Stir well till the flour dissolves into the water
3) Sieve the mixture to remove any undissolved flour
4) Grease the rice cooker with some cooking oil and pour the mixture in
5) Set it to the cooking white rice temperature
6) Every 3 minutes, open up the rice cooker to stir the dough
7) Approximately 7-8 repetitions, the muah chee will be formed, it might require more 3-minute stirring for certain rice cookers
8) When the dough is sticky and formed, pour in a tablespoon of sesame oil and coat it well
9) Take the dough out, cut it into small pieces and coat it with a mixture of ground peanut powder and sugar

And there you have it, your very own homemade muah chee that you can pair with coffee or tea.

Basically it’s a Youtiao stuffed with squid filling and then fried till crispy and golden brown! It’s usually accompanied with a mayo or sometimes a mint green sauce!

How about Hainanese Satay?
🔻
@bigbrandsatay offers a wide range of Malacca-style food with its specialty being Hainanese Satay. @klooksg is now offering Grill Your Own Satay sets that come with a full satay spread and a disposable charcoal BBQ grill for you to grill up a fresh satay meal at home.
🔻
I must say the highlight has to be the ‘Grill your own Satay Feast’ where all you have to do is to light the griller and start your BBQ! It’s definitely a whole lot of fun for the family especially during these time when we can’t eat freshly grilled satay!
🔻
For those who are wondering, the malacca style is slightly different from ours as their is more of a savory profile compared to sweet! It’s sauce has a slight tangy taste too! The meats( including pork) are very tender and well seasoned! Eat it with the accompanying ketupat, cucumber and onions for maximum pleasure!
