Have been eyeing the latest addition to the Jalan Besar dim sum cluster, Sum Dim Sum, for a while and I finally had the chance to pop by with my family yesterday:) We ordered 9 of our favourite dim sum dishes and it amounted to $56.7 for 3 pax, which is reasonable. I’m usually a bigger fan of the steamed items but the fried items are surprisingly good. The Pan Fried Carrot Cake ($4.50) is very fragrant and soft, and the Fried Prawn Roll in Beancurd Skin ($4.50) and Deep Fried Yam Dumpling ($4.50) are very crispy and addictive. Overall, the food is pretty decent, the environment is pleasant and the service is good:) Happy with this find!

The asparagus har gow (prawn dumpling) was likely the only noteworthy dish I had the night I tried the (relatively) new @sumdimsumsg. Fresh, juicy shrimp was encased in a serviceably thin rice flour skin alongside the tart asparagus. A surprise, to be sure, but a welcome one.⠀

I liked these har gows, and I tried my hardest to like @sumdimsumsg. Believe me, I tried so hard, and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter. I hate to say it, but the food just isn’t good enough especially considering both of its competitors just three doors down. I’m sorry darling, it’s not me, it’s you. I’ll be here without you.

You would have probably noticed upon stepping into the restaurant that most tables would have an order of their Signature Crispy Pork Bun ($6) and this is something that you absolutely cannot miss out on. Made famous by Tim Ho Wan, this bao version is not steamed but instead the bun, containing the BBQ pork, is baked. The difference at Sum Dim Sum is that they have added pandan extract onto the bun to give it a green hue. This additional touch gives it a nice fragrance from the pandan while the buttery and crispy exterior gives it the x-factor from the traditional steamed buns. The filling of char siew plays a major role in the entire dish, as it is neither too sweet nor fatty, which makes you want to eat more without feeling surfeited.

[How about some dim sum and alcohol at 2 months old SUM DIM SUM restaurant 😱😋👌🏻 Promo included below!]
Located at 161 Jalan Besar, joining Swee Choon and Dim Sum Haus in the same area to satisfy your breakfast and supper cravings at affordable prices anytime from 11.30am-1.30am 🙌🏻. What surprised us was that they serve alcohol to pair with dim sum, damn!! 🥢🥂🍻

Prepared freshly by the head chef from Hongkong and his team daily, and also being particular on handmade quality and traditional recipes, it was a sight to see in their open concept kitchen 🤩

Overall, quality was decent although there were hits and misses, given its extremely wide variety. My favourite picks would be their Signature Hot & Spicy Dumpling ($4.80), Pan Fried Carrot Cake ($4.50), Fried Prawn Roll in Beancurd Skin ($4.50), Egg Tart ($4.60), BBQ Pork Rice Roll ($4.90), HK Style Wanton Noodle ($7) 😋

📣 Flash this post and quote to enjoy your first pint of beer for FREE with any order of 2 dishes. Choices of beer include: Kornenbourg 1664 Blanc & Carlsberg. Valid till 30 April 2020 😊

💌Thanks @sumdimsumsg hosting us with a great spread of dim sum 😄 and Angie @abundancegie @wheretoeatsg for the invite 🤗
