loved the mentaiko pasta! not too jelak.. and came with a lot of tobiko that added dimension to the flavour. would especially recommend the miso soup that came with real salmon chunks and onions in it!

went for mom’s 49th birthday and got 49 slices (didn’t exactly count but felt like it was way more) 🤪 a pretty cool initiative they offer for free (reservation compulsory), with purchase of min. 4 bowls if i don’t remember wrongly. salmon sashimi slices were so thick!!! surprised they were so generous~ worth every cent!

The broth was light and ramen was springy and tasty. Fishcake was a lil funny as it was really soft and didn’t taste like a fishcake.

Prawn was great.

Ramen was great, they handmake the ramen. The broth was really strong tasting, for those who prefer the stronger broth. Meat inside was tender, had beef and pork.

This was interesting! $18 for the bowl.

Homemade luncheon meat was nice and tasted less processed than the usual luncheon meat. Foie gras was great, a rather large piece. Could do with a better mix of the sauce on the rice tho.

We love this version of dry Yuzu ramen! The noodles was springy and has a nice chewy texture to it. Yuzu made it refreshing, not too sour but a taste of summer. Definitely a must try!

very well-executed bowl with a burst of flavours: house-made luncheon meat from Nagano pork, pan-seared foie gras, marinated mushrooms, pickled radish & a fried quail’s egg atop fluffy japanese Koshibuki rice drizzled with house-made foie gras sauce. Sweet & savoury goodness with every mouthful!

super thick & creamy bowl of tonkotsu broth ramen for the meat lovers! comes with a generous portions of sauteed sliced US beef, nagano pork char siew, 8-hour slow roasted red wine boneless beef short ribs & lava egg, topped with beansprouts, bamboo shoots, black fungus & leeks.

These were crispy and had an extra seaweed flavour but we both wanted more yuzu in this 😂 They go super well with the sour cream too!

The mixed tempura ramen comes with a choice of noodles and we got chilled yuzu noodles to go with this. The chilled yuzu noodles were even stronger in yuzu flavour and was super refreshing! The tempura didn’t stand out and was oily too.

Finally tried @sumobarhappy after drooling over posts of their chilled yuzu ramen for the longest time! I had the spicy beef xo-mala mazemen with the yuzu ramen which added an appetising twist to the dish that reminded me a lot of zhajiangmian 😆

Came for the birthday sashimi.
Conditions are such that each person has to buy a donburi or ramen.
Unfortunately both were not exceptionally great hence not justifying their steeper prices. There are definitely better ramen out there.
But of course, the birthday sashimi was a bonus so if that justifies the prices for mediocre ramen then it’s worth a try.

Salmon Sashimi
.
Birthday cake never tasted so heavenly before. @sumobarhappy when celebrating birthday within a week of the actual date and 4 or more diners order a main each, we get this complimentary platter of salmon sashimi slices equivalent to our age (up to a max of 60). This bowl of salmon wasn’t to@my credit though but I was lucky enough to have pioneer gen in the group so we got the full 60!!! Salmon slices were definitely fresh and yummy and as thick as usual sashimi!

The salmon don is pretty good, able to choose the flavors like the original, spicy etc. The have cooked salmon and others too. Able to add additional topping like onsen egg, miso soup, avocado. Pretty affordable too. 😊

Who needs cake anyway with Sumo Bar Happy’s birthday promotion; FREE sashimi slices = your age! Came down for a family celebration and got 60 slices of thick, firm salmon.

You’ll have to make a reservation within seven days before/after the actual birthday with a minimum of four pax and each diner needs to order a main, but the food’s good anyway, so no issues there. 👅Time to check your calendars for upcoming birthdays!

There’s the slow roasted oxtail, braised beef tendon, sautéed sliced US beef, 8 hour slow roasted red wine boneless short-rib and Nagano pork char siew.
The broth is slow-cooked for 48 hours! No wonder the broth is so thick and flavourful! Not to mention the broth is also infused with beef. 🥩

The oxtail is a little hard to break from the bone though. 🤭 In addition to the beef and pork goodness, there’s also free flow eggs for the extra boost of protein!
Gather your beef lovers friends and head down~ 🐮🐷🐮🐷

You get free salmon sashimi slices equal to your age! Time to bring your Ah Gong Ah Ma out for a meal! 🙊
When in doubt, just order the mini loco moco don! I like it better than the ramen which is much lighter in taste than it looks. But look at that beef!! 😍

My third time ordering this, cos I love the housemade chilled yuzu noodles here. They make their own noodles, and added yuzu in the process. The yuzu scent is strong here, so it works refreshingly well as chilled noodles. And it's served with a tempura onsen egg (I only know one other tendon place in Singapore that serves tempura egg).
🔸
The basket of tempura consists of prawn, snapper, shiso, onion tempura. Batter is light and not oily. Served with a side of blended soy dip.

Sumo's ramen has always been special, and they are offering 4 different soup bases. On top of the original tonkotsu simmered for 48 hours, you can also choose to have black sesame miso, spicy miso or shoyu.
🔸
And it's not about adding a splash of sauce over the original broth. Each concoction was recreated meticulously. This black sesame miso uses house miso blended with black sesame and roasted garlic. It's thick, flavourful and distinctively nutty.
🔸
You can opt for this Black Sesame (or Chilli Miso, Shoyu, or Tonkotsu) for any of their ramen, but I had it for their Sumo Ramen which contains all their beef toppings in a bowl - slow-roasted oxtail, braised beef tendon, sauteed sliced US beef, 8 hour slow roasted red wine boneless short rib and Nagano pork char siew.

The best part of this was the batter. Hardly tasted the chicken skin. The taste wasn't really worth the calories this contained.
