Another choice off the beaten track and another jackpot. This is again one of the dishes that i would never order in a restaurant, due to my preconceptions about how it could possibly taste. Really brings to mind the scenes from shokugeki no soma when erina challenges her father's stubborn conception of "ideal Cuisine", that taste different from what a certain dish usually taste like and lead to incredible results.

The fried rice was pretty decent, though it's not really like other great Fried rice I've had. Egg was on point as well, and the sauce was well balanced and not too much such that it doesnt soak thru the rice. A must-try, simply cos it's not really like normal and is actually good

The sauce looks like the kind i would hate, but dayum it was superb. Slightly viscous, and full of umami, it's a far cry from Traditional pork belly with Minced garlic but it's really undeniably good. A must-try here, and a decent portion(though considering the price, that's to be expected)

Something i definitely wouldnt order by myself, but since we dk what to order, and the waitress recommended it, plus my friend was down with flu, this happened. IDK WHY BUT EVERYTHING HERE IS BETTER THAN EXPECTED. The soup was surprisingly enjoyable and not Plain, while the seafood was of a very satisfactory quality too. Noodles were great, the Thin slightly chewy kind of ramen. Dont get me wrong, this is a solid dish, but idk if i would recommend if other Noodle dishes they have can outperform expectations similarly.

Really very very good lol. Didnt imagine it will taste like this, so homely and juicy yet very enjoyable. Chock full of ingredients and yes, somehow once u put the tomato sauce in it just seems Plain without, despite how good before u try it with the tomato sauce

Now, I know, you’re thinking that I’m a clown for paying $18++ for an omelette. But it ain’t just any ol’ omelette, it’s Sun King Ryoriya’s Fried Eggs (omelette)& crab stick with carrots, mushrooms, bamboo shoots & onions. And just like the dish name on the menu, it’s one helluva mouthful.

It’s a majestic mouthful though, as the wonderfully wet omelette was astoundingly addictive and fluffy. There was a nice, light browning on a good bit of the omelette which made the already eggceptional eggs even more sublime. The bamboo shoots & carrots were present to provide a charming crunch to each bite, and every ingredient flawlessly fused together for full flavour fabulousness. Hey, teamwork makes the dream work, right?

Normally I wouldn’t even think to dip omelettes into ketchup, but once that taboo was broken, it was the only way I wanted to polish off this plate of eggy excellence.

Omelette du fromage? Nah, not this time, I’ll rep the Sun King cause he’s also egg royalty.

Situated strategically along the stretch of bars & other watering holes stretching towards Clarke Quay, Sun King Ryoriya doesn’t just capitalise upon the multitude of Japanese residents livin’ in the ‘hood, it preys upon alcoholics staggering around in search of some sustenance.

As @veronicaphua put it succinctly: Sun King does Taiwanese classics, but in Japanese style. One example would be their signature pork belly with garlic sauce ($20++, small). It’s a simple dish of thinly sliced poached pork belly jazzed up with a little garlic sauce. Even though the pork belly is simply boiled, there is no offensive odour, and the pork is tastefully tender with just that little bit of firmness to give pleasure to the chew.

The garlic sauce is Sun King’s rendition of the traditional garlic sauce with a Japanese flair to it. It’s a little chili oil, garlic oil and god knows what else mixed together, but the end result is undeniably umami. Plus, it’s a rather aesthetic dish, so your camera can tuck in too.
