For the Mackerel Roll, there was none of the unpleasant fishiness as they countered the flavour by pairing it with the mint-tasting Shiso leaf. It also felt substantial in my opinion as the bite had a good ratio of the lightly seared saba fish to rice. The crisp nori adding that umami factor to the already tangy-savoury combination as well.

Plump and sweet, the Kuruma Ebi was a winner too. It had a really nice bite. Sliced into two for the ladies, the shrimp tasted fresh and packed a good dose of flavour.

As for the line-up of their 7 Nigiri sushi, my favourites would have to be the Anago, the Mackerel Roll, and the Kuruma Ebi (Japanese Tiger prawn). Just melt-in-the-mouth, the Anago Sushi was done to perfection and love that it was served warm. Bamboo leaf-smoked, the Sea Eel was remarkably soft and the brush of the savoury sauce was really the icing on the cake. And as what many have said, their shari (vinegared rice) is exceptional.

Unlocked a new achievement last month - visiting Sushi Mieda for their omakase all alone! Well taken care of by the staff and chef, I had a great experience sampling from the seasonal Kikyou lunch menu ($140++). First up, the appetiser was a uber tender crab cake with a soft wedge of daikon and greens served in an umami bonito ankake. The dish was like a hug - warm and comforting. Flavoured with yuzu, the savoury sauce was so good and the brightness of the citrusy element worked so well with the sweetness of the crab cake.

The one item you can’t miss from their omakase is their Mini Chirashi Bowl. A signature item, it was simply heavenly. Topped with creamy sweet Uni, briny ikura, and freshly grated wasabi, it packed quite a surprise. The medley of textures was one of the highlights as there were nice bits of savoury crunch amidst the soft cubes of sashimi. The combination was also superbly decadent and aromatic with the flavoured rice and highly coveted ingredients.
