The hanging ceiling of paper flowers and the exquisite tiered placement of sushi draws me in, and we got the chope deal with the salmon and premium takeshi roll for $24+. The salmon sushi makes us spoilt for choice: aburi, mentaiko, fresh - you can't go wrong. Service is fast. Do make a booking on a Friday evening, no walk in otherwise (on the day I went). PS. This reminds me of a popular cafe in Jakarta

Had the Aburi Salmon roll - it was infuriatingly disappointing. In my opinion Japanese food should be simple, well executed and fresh. For starters, the rice in this roll was BROKEN and CLUMPY. As it is an aburi dish, we will overlook the observation that it was warm. This should never be the case as Japanese pay close attention to the quality and texture of their grain especially sushi chefs. The cream topping placed above the roll tasted like canned tuna with excessive onion and mayo. Needless to say my date and I were let down this trip to Takeshi

One of my colleagues remarked that what Holland Village really needs, is a really good Japanese restaurant. We were therefore quite excited to try Takeshi-San, a new Japanese sushi bar which opened last month.

@takeshisansg is insta-perfect from the paper mache flowers hanging from the ceiling to their sushi which are beautifully plated on a flight of wooden stairs.

Their prices are kinda in line with the mid-range sushi bars ($5 to $15 for sushi and $15 to $20 for sushi rolls. Their dons were however a little pricier, starting at $26 for their mini salmon chirashi don.

The food however was kinda meeeeeh. Their sashimi was relatively good but we all agreed that their sushimeshi was rather lackluster. The rice was relatively bland and unevenly seasoned. The dons were also kinda on the small side, considering the price. Service was also rather inattentive, considering that there were only two to three tables occupied during lunch service.

Bottom line: The food is decent but lacks a wow factor that will make me come back for more. I may drop by again if I am in the area and craving for Japanese food. But that said, I may just cross the road for Sushi Tei instead.

P.S. they offered us a tasting cup of a shochu which they intended to introduce. That was rather nice. I may come back for the sake and shochu though.

Good quality ingredients with unique flavours, worth it with the 1-for-1 burpple deal. Special shout-out to the yuzu kirin beer!

Came here on a weekday for lunch it attracted pretty good business, so naturally we had some high expectations.

We ordered one of the sushi set lunch ($30) and the chirashi rice bowl ($37). But without the burpple promotion, we would probably be quite disappointed...

Food presentation: 10/10. Loved how the sushi “stairs” looked, and the rice bowl was visually appetizing too.

Taste: 6/10. The sashimi was fresh, but nothing fantastic, nothing stood out.

Price: 5/10. Without the burpple promotion the meal would have cost us around $70++, which we felt wasn’t worth it considering the portions aren’t huge and we were still hungry after. With burpple we paid about $40, which I think is a more reasonable standpoint.

Service: 9/10 service was good, staff are friendly and attentive.

Ingredients are high quality and taste amazing. Expensive without burrple beyond, but definitely worth a try with burrple beyond. Will be visiting again to try out their weekday set menus and sushi rolls! Also, rmb to make a reservation as there are limited tables.
