Reviews

From the Burpple community

Must say that as much as I yearn for it sometimes, Talamsuji is so hidden that even I tend to miss the store sometimes especially if you aren't looking hard enough and just walk pass the only sign of its existence — the door.

They didn't have much in stock in the morning but they did have three of the many Kueh Lapis flavours they offer — settled for the Lapis Kaya slice that comes pretty moist and soft with evident flavours of the spices with Kaya lathered at certain layers in between for a familiar sweet Pandan touch. Still prefer their original flavour where the flavours of the spices are even more profound, but it's one of the places that does really good Kueh Lapis without that horribly greasy feeling that layers your lips afterwards.

I read Xingwei's Burpple review on this place few weeks ago and made an attempt then hoping to get my hands on those kueh lapis, but I went on a Thursday, a rest day for them 😫
Fast forward to today, I checked that they were in operation and walked over to Everton Park. It's an inconspicuous tiny outfit next to the popular soybean milk - it's likely you'll miss it if you don't keep your eye on the signs while walking along the corridor.
The display had 6 types of kueh lapis in single slices and full-sized cakes: original, kaya, cempedak, coffee, chocolate and a new strawberry ice cream (though it's just strawberry flavour with some jam). Prices range from $1.80-$2.20 per slice.
I only ate the strawberry and original slices, with the latter being the better (say 10 times). The original lapis betawi had a stronger spice profile than the typical bengawan solo lapis, I could identify the faint essences of cinnamon and nutmeg though I'm sure there were other spices.
They were in the midst of making the durian version when I arrived (darn!), so that warrants another visit in due time. Their website also offers other types of Malay kuehs to order for pickup or delivery.

Think this is relatively new in the Everton Park neighborhood for I don't recall seeing their tiny shop space when I went past the estate last time. Specializing in Kueh Lapis and other Malay traditional kuih, I went for the original Kueh Lapis and found it pretty fragrant of the mixed spices that is used in making Kueh Lapis while being just of the right sweetness without layering lips with oiliness. They have other Kueh Lapis such as Kaya and Durian flavours, and if kuih isn't your cup of tea there is seems to be also a Chocolate Sonata cake available (which looks really similar to a flourless chocolate cake) for only $3.60. There is only a table and two seats around, and they seemed to do orders and takeaways so the seats aren't really meant for dine-in — just something you might want to note before heading down.

Talamsuji is located at Blk 5 Everton Park, #01-22, Singapore 080005.
