Recommended on the menu: Pan-seared foie gras, US black angus short rib, onsen egg, truffle soy, black garlic brown butter over Tanuki Raw’s signature rice.

It isn’t my first time trying tanuki raw but somehow I think some of the component on the menu has changed from what I remembered.

I liked how thinly sliced the beef was and its tender, not chewy. Broke the onsen egg because I love runny yolk and I dipped the beef slices in it for extra yumminess 🍳 Foie gras however tasted a little off that day, plus too charred on the sides which was quite a waste as I was looking forward to that the most initially.

Good for a quite fix, especially if you can’t live without rice

Food was on the saltier side. Had the shohei Don, was so-so ... Maybe better off sticking to their beef bowls

Let’s just say I had a very different expectation when reading the menu. Tuna was minced instead of cubed, and I just don’t enjoy the spicy sauce— it’s peppery and spicy yet bland (I ended up pouring all the soy sauce). Salmon comes with faint mentaiko flavour. Rice was sprinkled with some furikake but it’s only adding flavour to a few spoonfuls of the rice. Overall, not my kind of ricebowl. Can easily find better alternative at cheaper price.

Was pleasantly surprised with the huge slab of foie gras, considering the moderate price tag. Unagi was pretty fresh as well and it went well with the foie gras. Rice was flavourful- the typical Tanuki Raw’s rendition- but too soft for my liking.

My third time at Tanuki Raw, and all three times I visited the branch at National Design Centre. I really like it because it’s nestled in a boutique accessories/design shop and feels artsy 😝

I’ve tried a couple of rice bowls - spicy miso char siew, garlic butter chicken, and now yuzu salmon miso. The rice bowls have been consistently good! The bowl looks small but the portion is actually pretty filling. And the Japanese rice, yumz.

My fav of the three rice bowls I’ve tried would be the garlic butter chicken - the chicken was crispy yet tender and the garlic butter was fragrant. Was slightly disappointed by the yuzu salmon miso though, because the yuzu taste wasn’t very obvious, though the sauce was tangy and quite refreshing. ☺️ And I’ve had better salmon elsewhere.

Have also tried their WHAM fries in the past, which is basically sweet potato fries + marshmallow + melted cheese + avocado. Sounds like it might be bad but it’s actually strangely good! Hahaha 😆 It’s one of those things that sounds terrible but turns out pretty delish. Worth a try I’d say.

Tried their new addition to the menu, Futo Sushi!! We had the Unagi&Foie Gras and Beef Cheese one 😆 Although the beef was slightly tough, it went well with the cream cheese and I honestly liked the matchup 🤤 For the other, even though I’m not a fan of foie gras, I have to give credit for how good it tasted when consumed with the unagi. Special mention to the rice!! The rice was savoury and well seasoned, Tanuki never disappoints with their rice!!! Give it a try if you feelin’ boujee, $9.90’s pretty decent for foie gras & unagi 🤷🏻‍♀️
