Arrived too early for the tapas but had a brie & anchovies sandwich and latte instead. The bikini sandwiches were yummy too! Sat at the outdoor area. Great for people-watching.

This “Bikini Carles Abellan” is a must order from Tapas 24, owned by Carles Abellan who paid his dues at the legendary El Bulli. Black truffles, Iberian ham and mozzarella. When they come together in a hot gooey crispy toast, it’s a perfect amalgamation of flavours and texture. Not quite the ham and cheese toast. #WEWinBarcelona

There must be something in the waters here because every octopus dish I've ordered in Barcelona has been stellar. The paprika dusted tentacled beast is thick-cut, yet surprisingly tender, and is perfectly complemented by silky potato puree, chorizo crumble and dollops of spicy tomato sauce.

Its looks don't impress but the flavour certainly does. "Smashed eggs" with fat fries and chorizo is my kind of "breakfast for dinner" food. Sidenote: apparently this is also the restaurant other chefs come to eat.

Prawns grilled till even their shells were brittle and crispy, these were a joy to eat whole, peeling be damned. Snap the heads off and suck out the delectable nectar of head cheese first, then pop the rest into your mouth in one go. Amazingly simple, fresh and well-cooked.

(Pa amb Tomàquet €4) Almost a given at every meal, the traditional Catalan bread with tomato is as addictive as it is simple. Fresh vine tomatoes smashed and rubbed into thin slices of bread that have been toasted several times, then seasoned with a generous glug of olive oil and salt.

(Mc Foie €9.5) A juicy beef and foie gras patty sandwiched between paper thin crisp toast and served with velvety, unctuous foie gras ganache on the side.

(Bikini Carles Abalan €9) Essentially an upmarket ham and cheese toastie with black truffle, Iberian ham and buffalo mozzarella. Comfort food right here.
