This is the place to go if you are looking for reasonably priced Teochew porridge with a wide variety of dishes to select from. Taste-wise they are neither the best nor the worst. It’s just a decent and simple place to go for a no-frills Teochew porridge meal.

Dishes that I have tried are minced pork with fermented black beans, braised pork belly, braised pig skin, handmade fish cake and preserved vegetables. These dishes are relatively standard except for the pig skin which was not braised well enough and quite tough in texture 》$18.20

That’s because it takes next to no effort Teochew. Geddit? Oh yes, my puns are on FIRE. But Teochew porridge is always great, wasted or not.

Sin Hock Seng’s Teochew porridge may not be the best in Singapore, or even Geylang for that matter, but it warms and revives your cold, dead soul like nothing else. There’s just something about a simple bowl of watery Teochew porridge paired up with classics such as steamed sotong, chye poh omelette and beautifully braised big intestines that just hits the spot.

Their sweet and sour chili is a perfect pairing with the springy squid, and their (admittedly) overly salty braised big intestines. The chili lala is surprisingly sumptuous as well.

Teochew porridge is most definitely classic Singaporean soul food and there’s no doubt about that.

Best for rainy days ...

My reliable place to go for a home cooked affair... ....

Sesame oil chicken , steamed egg , braised peanuts , hairy gourd with vermicelli and perfectly cooked Teochew mui .

The dishes are generally well cooked without being too oily.

7 dollars 💵.. how affordable is that .

Yes - you can retire in singapore ...😂

Tasty 😋 and no frills Teochew porridge

This coffee shop is my to go to place for a quick and comforting meal at very affordable prices .

Some dishes like stewed peanuts , stewed potatoes in brown shallot sauce, hairy gourd with vermicelli, Chye-Poh egg , Hae bee hiam ( spicy dried shrimps ) and fried fish are my all time favourites .

Special mention must be made of the fried fish in brown gravy and Hae bee hiam .
The fried fish was very fresh and was blanketed in a gravy full of ginger aroma.
The Hae bee hiam was slightly on a sweeter side but was nonetheless very tasty.

I like how the porridge is served piping hot and you can even request for extra “ hump” ( porridge water ) at no cost .

Nice , home cooked dishes that are not too oily😋 .

While most would go to Lor 39 for their Teochew porridge affair , I personally prefer this place at Lor 37 because the dishes are so home cooked .

I love it that the Beancurd arrives pipping hot and the peanuts are braised in house . The other usual fare like the chye Poh egg and the chap chye are very well done too. Special mention to be made about their Hae bee hiam ( which I skipped this time round because I was under the weather ) which is extremely flavourful and according to my partner, is the closest to his mum's Hae bee hiam.

Service is very accommodative and friendly too .
Do remember to ask for an additional bowl of " hump" - perfect to warm your stomach after a Long day's work .

For watery porridge with loads of tasty dishes to share.
Must orders will include (clockwise):
- Tau Kee (Beancurd skin)
- Super tender Cabbage
- Meaty Pork Trotter braised in soy sauce
- Minced meat with fermented black beans
- Braised Pigs Skin
- Garlic Kiam Chye (aka salted veg)

Their garlicky sweet vinegary chilli goes well with literally everything. Plus, they always give extra lor-sauce and porridge water whenever you request for it. Comfort at its mostest.
Best savoured in dead of the night with a bunch of greedy buddies.
