Wanted to come here and DIY my bowl but ended up ordering their new item (nice to MEAT you) 😂 Their food is very pricey especially when they serve you in such a small bowl. I'm not a big eater but I can easily finish this within a few mouth ☹ But ok the sliced beef is really good and flavourful - just like those shabu shabu beef? Can also taste that those japanese rice are of quality. But be prepared to eat something else after this cause you definitely won't be full 🙃 And this bowl is not that healthy since there are no vegetables haha unless you count those sweet caramelized onions as one.

Teppei Syokudo has been my go-to place for good chirashi don ever since my junior college days. I loved the DIY concept, which allowed me to choose my fish and toppings depending on my mood that day. (its such a cute and unique twist on a classically Japanese dish) I am also a huge fan of their special Teppei dressing which the fish cubes are generously tossed in.

This is the regular Kaisen salad ($16.80) with sweet onion dressing and zhnged up with their Edamame ($0.80) and Onsen Egg ($2.00). It comes with 4 choices of seafood and I selected salmon, squid, swordfish and baby scallop. The toppings were in a generous portion; blanketing the bowl so the salad could barely be seen. As usual, the seafood tasted delightfully fresh and sweet, cut into the perfect size so one could appreciate a fair amount of salad and fish in a single bite. The shoyu based sauce balanced the bowl out with just the perfect amount of saltiness and the creamy egg, ikura and freshly ground sesame contributed to the variety of textures and flavors in the bowl.

This is a good choice for a fast, casual lunch or a fun dinner date! The only reason why it gets one point knocked off is the price as well as the rice (in the kaisendon) being occasionally overcooked.

Teppei Syokudo is having a premium seafood promotion menu from 29 Oct - 2 Dec 2018 and I finally got my hands on the Kani Crab Miso Kaisen Don ($19.80) today🤗 I have always been a fan of Teppei’s kaisen don as it is one of the more affordable options out there that does not compromise on its quality! The salmon, tuna, swordfish, scallop, whelk and ikura are tossed in a savoury sauce and the taste is on point as usual (wish the serving was more generous though). However, the real star is the kani crab miso, which is a rich and velvety crab paste made up of fresh crab meat and innards infused with miso - it is almost like a milder version of uni and goes so well with rice! I also had a taste of the Hokkaido Scallop Kaisen Don ($19.80) - it’s pretty tasty but the scallops are a little too buttery for me. Glad to tick these off my checklist before the promotion ends:)!

Signature Teppei Shoyu marinate for the bara sashimi cubes 👌🏻👌🏻

What I felt was unpleasant is how much sesame dressing lathers the small portion of salad vegetables. Sometimes, less is more :)

I figured that a small size wouldn’t last me for very long so I went for the medium. The ingredients were all well-marinated and neatly cut into chunks thus giving a great texture. Garnished with spring onions, sesame seeds, and a small scoop of ikura. Also comes with wasabi that is pretty potent. I would have loved more rice as I found myself having more fish left than rice while halfway into the meal. It’s slightly pricey at $16 for a medium-sized bowl but that is pretty much the price tag on average.

Haven't had the Bara from Teppei Syukudo for quite a while and it still pretty much satisfies those Barachirashi Don cravings. Opted for salmon, octopus, tuna and baby scallops atop Japanese rice — the fish were all neatly cut so it's all pretty consistent in terms of texture; the seafood all chunky and well-marinated with a sauce at the point of serving so the cubes of fish comes with a tinge of savouriness without masking over the original flavours of the fish. Still, pretty much a convenient option (considering how they seem to be almost everywhere in town) for quality Barachirashi bowls for a decent price around.
