Nestled in the bottom corner of the display cabinet is this unassuming flavour that packs a punch. Perhaps one of the less-photogenic loaves, the Basil Leaves & Cheese loaf had a sunken-in appearance. Maybe the cheese was too dense for the fluffy bread at Thai Baang.

The exterior is a bit crusty due to the hardened cheese. Despite that, the loaf gives with minimal resistance. I was rewarded with an aromatic chunk of basil-spiced bread. The loaf was sweeter than I would’ve expected, but the initial sweetness is almost immediately cut through by the earthy herbs and sharp cheese. Good option for those craving a savoury bread!

Hit a windfall today when I passed by Thai Baang at 6.15pm because they still had quite a good selection of breads available! The Thai Milk Tea Chocolate was one of the loaves I picked up. Thai Baang makes the SOFTEST breads ever, and this loaf was no exception. Despite the brown colouring and Cha Tra Mue tea leaves speckled in the bread, I did find the Thai Milk Tea aroma and taste lacking. The generous pockets of chocolate scattered throughout the loaf did make up for that though, and ultimately the Thai Milk Tea Chocolate loaf is extremely enjoyable as a meal, snack or a sweet treat.


I’m usually a huge chocoholic, so I’m surprised I don’t like the chocolate Swiss rolls at Thai Baang more. I don’t taste much chocolate in the cake, nor in the cream, and this ultimately just tastes really flat to me. Thai Baang’s Swiss rolls are dense and moist, don’t expect fluffy airy textures here. That doesn’t mean that they’re not good though. My advice - 1) ask for samples, or 2) just skip the chocolate and go for the black sesame because that one is awesome!
