Ayam buah keluak ($24) - the buah keluak pieces were pretty big and stewed well but the sauce lacked depth. Chicken could have been more tender

🍴Blue Ginger opened their second outlet at Great World City and we thought to give it a try since there was 1-1 burpple vouchers (applicable for vegetables, meats, and starters). Overall, we thought that the dishes were a little oily and all the meats (chicken, pork, beef) were quite tough and chewy, but the sauces were decently good. Dark horse of the meal was the free flow tangy achar!

If we had to rank the proteins, we would say: first, the babi pongtay with its savoury yet slightly sweet and overall moreish sauce. Second, the buah keluak pieces were pretty big and stewed well, although the sauce lacked depth. The beef rendang was the least impressive - the sauce was quite lemak, particularly oily, and could do with punchier spices for added complexity.

The chap chye was soft and flavoursome enough - pretty good rendition as a compliment to the other dishes.

Buah Keluak Fried Rice ($15++): A black beauty 🖤, this plate of fragrant rice 🍚 tossed in an umami, earthy buah keluak rempah 😋 & chicken chunks 🍗 was super yummy! Topped with a garnish of cashews & fried shallots for layering textures! 👍🏻

Chap Chye Masak Titek ($15++): A classic mixed vegetable dish prepared in a tasty prawn stock 🦐, love how the soft vegetables have absorbed all the essence of the stock! 🤤

Beef Rendang ($20++): Our favourite! 💯 Featuring beef cubes 🐄 prepared in rich coconut milk 🥥 spiced with ginger, lemongrass, lime leaves & a dash of curry powder, this was pull-apart tender & so flavourful! 👏🏻

The vegetables were soft and flavourful. The sauce was a sweet and salty, which was a good balance to our meat and otak. The taste of spices were not too overpowering which made the dish palatable.

The only thing we would hope for was for all the dishes to be served a little warmer as they were mostly served at room temperature.

Overall, Blue Ginger is a place that is suitable for families as the dishes are not too spicy and relatively well balanced in taste. They offer free flow of rice and achar too!
