Came across the social media pages of The Dessert Party some time back, but hadn’t made the trek out to Tampines since it wasn’t really quite in the same line of the places we have been checking out for the past couple of weeks. Finally got the chance to check out the hole-in-the-wall bakery fairly recently; with only two tables for two pax each available for dine-in (one inside the store, one outside), The Dessert Party serves a range of tarts, pound cakes and cookies, alongside some hot beverages which include specialty coffee from the small space for dine-in and takeaway.

Available only for a limited time is their lineup for crumble cakes — they do offer a Durian Crumble Cake and a Cempedak Crumble Cake; only the latter was available when we made our visit to The Dessert Party mid-afternoon on a weekend. Heated up upon order, the cake has a pretty simple composition of elements — only comprises of a sponge cake with crumbles over the top; there is also a rather generous portion of Cempedak flesh included towards the bottom of the cake. Really liked how the entire cake wasn’t too sweet; the cake was light and fluffy — really enjoyed how it was served warm which felt particularly comforting while the crumbles gave a crunch, giving the cake a variance of textures. The Cempedak flesh provides for just the apt level of sweetness for the cake, whilst also giving the cake a fibrous texture as one tears through the flesh with a nib of the cake and some crumbles atop — simple, but delicious.

While at it here, do give the mini tarts a try; available in several flavours, we went for the Lemon Meringue and the Salted Caramel Chocolate and these were pretty well-made; tart shells that holds up the fillings well, and crumbles neatly without shattering into a mess when sliced, we enjoyed the tart bases just as much as the fillings within which were pretty balanced in terms of sweetness and brings out the flavours as intended. A spot that I would recommend to check out; and somewhere that residents in the area would definitely appreciate having around!
