You know I love the wagyu at Gyu Bar, as they serve quality cuts at prices that aren't too expensive. This time, besides their signature yakiniku, they're also serving shabu shabu and sukiyaki.

Pictured is Kumamoto Wagyu at $196++ for two pax. If you want more meat, you can opt for additional wagyu at $75, or additional Miyazaki Pork Shoulder at $45. Alternatively, the Miyazaki Pork Shoulder shabu shabu set is $68 per pax, if you don't want wagyu. But you must save for the truffle egg porridge ($38 for two pax) at the end of the meal. They add rice, egg, truffles, and other condiments into the remaining shabu shabu broth for their comforting porridge.

Surprise find at Gyu Bar, which made me realise that Gyu Bar isn't all about premium wagyu. They actually have these carabinero priced only at $28 per piece. And these are high grade and prawns that are deep red, as owner @thetravellingcow explained that they wanted to keep the price relatively affordable.

And they tasted amazing under the grill... After I'm finished with the premium prawn flesh, I found myself sucking on its shells just to extract the brunt fragrance and whatever was remaining from the prawn juices.. And definitely, don't forget the head. A lot of good stuff inside.

It's truffles season, and Gyu Bar is serving up a seasonal black truffle menu. Expect to see stone pot wagyu, stone pot uni, wagyu caepaccio, Hokkaido scallops, all with wagyu shaved on it.

Pictured is 1/3 of a bowl of wagyu uni rice with truffles, as it was shared between three of us, with @siewyan49 and Gyu Bar's owner @thetravellingcow as well. My 4th visit here, and still loving it as much as during my first. And of course the overdue catch-up with owner Karen made everything even better... And thanks for the treat!

Nestled on Stevens Road, near the entrance of Mercure Hotel, is a 35-seater yakiniku restaurant that offers an omakase menu centred around premium cuts of Japanese beef. The chef even goes to the extent of showcasing their fresh meat to the diners before sending them to the grill. Go for the 6-Course Lunch Menu (from $68) or splurge on the 10-Course Dinner Menu (from $138) for special occasions. Expect to taste five different cuts of melt-in-your-mouth beef and pork.

The omakase menu changes frequently but this always stays, as it's their house signature. Japanese uni and wagyu tartare are packed into a crispy waffle cone. It's clean, sweet, and creamy. While I would have liked to savor this slowly, it's best eaten in one mouth.

The hokkaido scallop is lightly wrapped in a crispy breaded layer and seaweed, paired with uni sauce. I thought the uni sauce can be more piquant to brighten up the dish.
