In 2014, Aussie Chef Darren Farr started The Lokal, a Modern Australian Restaurant-Bar, providing all our customers with homemade comfort food — including butter, sauces, pickles and meats all made on site. Our name is German for local, an influence that be explained by its proximity to Goethe-Institut Singapore and is also reflective of our diverse and worldly approach towards food that can be enjoyed by the people in Singapore.  In the day, he serves up healthy and hearty brunches like Smashed Avocado with Ricotta, Roasted Pumpkin Salad, and Steak & Eggs, but slowly transits into a cozy and versatile space for intimate dinners & casual cocktails sessions with comfort food by German Head Chef Max Strauch such as Tasmanian Grass Fed Steak Frites, Catch of the Day and Grilled Pork Chops. Aside from the normal menus, both Chef Darren & Max also prepare Daily Specials with fresh seasonal produces for Brunch & Dinner, like Victorian Truffles & White Asparagus.

Having it my way:
1. Sourdough [$2]
2. Dark roasted peanut butter [$1] - homemade peanut butter, really out of this world, love how rich and intense the flavor is
3. Eggs [$6] - choose your style
4. Sautéed mushrooms [$6] - love the mixture of mushrooms used here
5. House smoked trout [$7] - probably my fav of the lot. Very subtle hint of smokiness in the perfectly cooked fish that just flakes off so gently with all its moisture intact (it’s no longer on the menu, replaced with mackerel. But do ask and see if they can do this for you)

Behind the scene: cold brew coffee [$7]

Started dinner with a small plate of cauliflower done three ways .. fried, pickled and pureed. Added oomph came in the form of pomegranate, pistachios and a ricotta base which complemented the cauliflower perfectly
Great start leading up to dinner

🤔: Probably one of the better pastas I've had in a cafe. Sauce has a deep seafood taste and super good. Super generous with the lobsters which came in big, juicy chunks! Price is on the steeper side, but it is definitely something I'd get when I deserve a treat.

🤔: Steak was done medium rare, but was a bit tougher than I would have liked. Got the steak frites version and let me just say, the fries were amazing. If you love fat fries, the ones here are definitely for you.

Homemade rolled oats with berries were good, wouldn’t say it’s worth $15++ but I guess I’m paying for the ambience as well. The cauliflower and cheese ($6++) was really good, perfect substitute for a Mac & Cheese!
