Love the food at The Populus cafe and it’s evident how many other people love them as well. It’s packed on weekends, so make sure to make a reservation before heading down or you be in for quite a wait. They have an extensive All Day Breakfast and Grain Bowl menu, as well as amazingly crispy waffles that you can top up for (~20 min waiting time) when you order their sundaes. The Populus is my favourite place for waffles, as their texture ticks all my boxes. The drink menu here covers both caffeine addicts and non-coffee drinkers as they serve up Mork hot chocolate imported from Melbourne, as well as non-coffee lattes. They brew great coffee here as well, with some beautiful latte art that warrants ordering the hot drinks for.

Recommendations:
- The Populus Scramble (I personally it prefer it without the deluxe option of lobster bisque and crabmeat)
- Bounty of the Sea Grain Bowl (for seafood lovers)
- The “Chicken Rice” Don
- Jamaican Rum Bananas Sundae with Waffles
- Hot Latte (or any hot milk coffee based drinks for the latte art!)

You had me at seahorse latte art.

How beautiful is this cuppa? The seahorse even has a tiny eye dot - talk about attention to detail! I have such a soft spot for latte art that when I saw this I loved the coffee at The Populus already without taking a sip. Fortunately, the coffee didn’t disappoint. It’s smooth, and the blend is nutty with a fragrant roast aroma.

Second time ordering this at The Populus and it definitely is a dish that warrants re-orders with each visit. We decided to go for the deluxe version where the eggs are scrambled with lobster bisque and crabmeat. The texture of the scrambled eggs are totally on point. They’re creamy, cheesy and moist. They never get jelak thanks to the addition of chillies to add some contrasting spiciness to a dish that could easily become boring. I’m not sure if it’s the addition of bisque that caused the scramble to be more salty than the previous time we visited, but the bacon did seem to be more salty than before too, which may have affected the overall dish. This balances out when eaten with the croissant, so it’s not too bad. I’ll definitely order this dish again when at The Populus. However, although we did see a good amount of shredded crabmeat in the eggs, I’d probably pass on the deluxe order as I didn’t feel that the bisque or crabmeat added much to the scramble.
