The prata was sweet, meaning that the chef cunningly added sugar without us even asking. Haha, sweet deepfried starches are everyone's weakness (fersure, just think #churros). This was more of a sweetbread: layered to be brown, crispy and flakey outside, and warm, white and chewy inside. It reminded me of the sultana danish you can get at Delifrance. In short, yummy!
I don't actually believe that 'Jalan Kayu - The Prata Cafe' has Jalan Kayu lineage.
Haha, I would have far less trouble believing that my neighbours' cat descended from Simba the Lion King. But nevermind that, cos they do make awesome pratas.
Let's just say I had even better prata elsewhere (springleaf prata and Mr & Mrs Morgan's super crispy roti prata). It wasn't bad. The original prata was also crispy. But somehow it didn't WOW me like the other two prata shops. Perhaps because of my letdown order of garlic prata. I thought it will be like garlic paste jam, but it turned out to be CHOPPED fresh garlic. Huh?! So for someone who doesn't really eat fresh garlic, I left them untouched (and wasted my 50cents haha) $1.70 for plain prata, $2.20 for garlic prata. #burpple #burpplesg #jalankayuprata #jalankayu #taiseng #18taiseng
Plenty of chunky masala potatoes filled this large thosai which made it too substantial for a mid-afternoon snack. But did I care? Hell, no. Stuffed my face without hesitation is what I did, aided by the contents of those three little bowls: a dhal (with whole green chilli padis in it), a chickpea masala and a mildly spicy mix of cauliflower and green peas. I ended up not having dinner till very late.
