The Salted Plum (Suntec City)

488 Wishlisted
~$20/pax
As the reincarnation of the popular Taiwanese Zi Char Five Ten, The Salted Plum launched in March 2018 with a new menu that retains old signatures, and surprises with intriguing flavours. Never intending to replicate Taiwanese classics, The Salted Plum instead celebrates Taiwanese flavours, ingredients, and techniques while catering to the Singapore palate.

πŸ€”: Found this a bit too sweet for my liking, but my friends really enjoyed it. Meat was ready well-marinated and tender, plus it had the melt-in-your-mouth texture. Wouldn't order it for myself, but would still recommend it to people who like braised pork!

πŸ€”: A normal bokchoy, not much to comment on. Probably a healthier version compared to tze char stores as these were blanched in water instead of being stir-fried.

πŸ“ˆ: 7.5/10

πŸ€”: Tender, juicy chicken thighs which were not only well-marinated, the slight char taste added to the overall flavour. It had a slight lemongrass (???) scent to it, making it reminiscent of everything thai.

πŸ€”: Highly addictive! Oyster mushrooms were fried to perfection, and the smashed potatoes were just the right texture, neither too over or undercooked. Plum powder was sprinkled on it and this sour, sweet and savoury - all at the same time - dish was so simple yet so good.

We had the burnt chilli chicken 2.0 ($10), chinese spinach with prawns ($10) and short grain rice ($0.50 each). The food was definitely tasty and the chicken super tender, a very good deal with burpple 1-1!

Rainy days call for some belly-comforting food and @thesaltedplumsg is where you should exactly go to. Other than their highly popular Taiwanese zi char dishes paired with sweet potato congee, why not try their rice bowl series (available from 11.30am-8.30pm) too? There’s always something for everyone.

Personally, the pork chop bowl is a slightly underrated option. Not extremely fantastic, but the sliced crispy fried pork chop was marinated well, as if there was a fermented bean curd taste and some five spice powder. Nice balance between fat and meat, although the meat was a little tough. Served with pickles, sous-vide egg on rice.

A hot favourite, the Lu Rou Fan 2.0, consists of a glorious slab of Braised Pork Belly in Haus Sauce 2.0. Slightly fatty, but incredibly tender slathered in a rich sauce full of spices. Served with bok choy, sous-vide egg on rice.
