This stall, founded in 1954 by Tay Soo Nam, still attracts queues for their classic rendition, a dry non-greasy sweet version of CKT.

Each order is fried individually, heaped messily onto the plate, with the chewy lup cheong / dried cured pork sausage, crisp bean sprouts, tender fish cake, and plump blood cockles pairing well with the wide flat rice noodles and long cylindrical yellow wheat noodles.

There isn't as much egg as elsewhere, but the robust sweet savoury salty flavours are tasty enough. Nice springy chew. Until recently, they were among the dwindling stalls with a SGD $2 option.

For me, fried kway Teow should have the following:
1) Wok Heat taste
2) Wet enough to slurp up
3) extra serving of cockle, preferably large
4) either very sweet or savoury.
This stall managed to fail all 4 requirements. There was no wok heat taste, the Kway teow was very dry and taste of yellow noodles still very strong. Lady at the stall informed me that they do not accept orders for extra cockle. The shellfish itself was small in size.

So why is there a long queue during lunch time? The answer is simple. The orders are individually fried, plate by plate. Full marks for effort. Not so high score taste wise.

Despite being sweet, it doesn't taste unhealthy...if you know what I mean and which is one of the reasons why I eat less char kuay teow in general

Even though they don't serve $2 ckt anymore although that's one of the reasons they got quite a bit of news PR in the past...I think it's fair. $2 food in tiong bahru would be way much of a steal. $3 with hum and all the liao is good value!

One of the few stalls with a 15-min wait queue on a Sunday afternoon, so it's doing something right.

Joined the long queue of people with high expectations, but was kinda disappointed. It’s a personal preference but I prefer my char kway teow on the sweeter and wetter side than this version.

It looked a little bit dry for my liking at first but when i took my first mouthful the wok hei flavor rly shines through. I like how the whole dish wasn’t too oily and I could keep going back for more without leaving TOO guilty and make sure you get the $4 so it’s loaded with all the ingredients😛(chinese sausage, egg, fishcake, cockles)

wasn't open on thu when we came but this is definitely worth the wait.. we could taste the flavour of the black sweet sauce and it was packed full of flavour and not oily at all.. there was enough charred flavour without being burnt and enough ingredients and the lap chiong wasn't too fatty and oily.. 5stars!! #burpple #mynewhood #gettingfatwhilewaiting #whilewaitingfortheloml #lomljnck #lomljns
