Wanted to explore Toa Payoh, and I'm glad I went to this Hawker centre. This place is filled with stalls that are well known by the people staying in the area, including this oyster omelette from Tian Tian Fa ($4/6/8). This is a drier version as compared to other stalls and many will appreciate the numerous crispy bits that go so well with the juicy plump oysters.

The curry rice ($3.70 for 2 meat 1 veg) from Toa Payoh Scissors Cut Curry Rice also satisfied my cravings for that, due to its thick flavourful curry sauce. I do wish their chicken cutlet is crispy though.

I can't remember the exact name of the stall but it has a black nameboard with the word "WANTON" on it in red lettering! It really stands out so you should be able to find it. :) Reason why I am giving so much detail to my description to identify this stall because the wanton mee is SO GOOD. The noodles are thin and springy, and the chilli coating each strand of noodles was pure delight. As for the sides, the boiled dumplings and pork ribs were the best of the lot. Next time, I would probably just go for char siew wanton noodles or the pork rib noodles rather than the signature, which has almost 5 different (huge servings of) ingredients! πŸ˜‚

Competition is tight in lorong 8 for char kway teow with as many as 4 char kway teow stalls. This, however is in my opinion the best. They also have the longest queue though, even though you may not see it as they have a queue system.

The noodles is well fried with enough wok hei, seasoned with the right amount of dark soy sauce, which combines with the noodles really well. Generally on the wetter side, but not the wettest around. Really really yummy. Cockles are also very fresh and juicy. Overall very well executed and balanced dish.

Stall: Shun Li Prawn Mee #01-36

This stall had the longest queue when I visited the food centre on a weekend night, sooo I decided to join the queue to see what the hype was all about πŸ˜… And honestly? It was that impressive πŸ˜₯ It was still a decent bowl of prawn noodles and the broth was quite flavourful. But sadly, I don’t think this was worth the queue

Stall: Hoe Heng Lor Mee #01-16

This was such a disappointment! πŸ˜” I read rave reviews of the lor mee here and there was a long queue when I visited.....but the lor mee was really not that great? πŸ˜₯ The sauce was really watery and bland, and I couldn’t even finish half the bowl because it was tasteless. Really hope it was just a once-off thing, but I probably wouldn’t be coming back here for more.
