It was love at first sight when Nasi Kuning ($9.90) was presented to us. โค What stood out the most has got to be the pyramid of Indonesian fragrance turmeric rice donning a coat of alluring bright yellow. ๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค๐Ÿคค So soft & fluffy with a hint of the iconic spice - Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll have more than a mouth! ๐Ÿ’ฏ
.
Served with traditional galangal fried chicken ๐Ÿ—, fried vermicelli, sliced omelette ๐Ÿณ, begedil (fried potato cake ๐Ÿฅ”), sweet & spicy fried tempeh, garlic crackers & home-made sambal ๐ŸŒถ, this was such a filling & satisfying meal! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
.
Iโ€™ve always got a bias towards begendil - crispy on the outside while remaining soft & moist inside ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹, well-seasoned to make this a savoury treat. The sambal was just mildly spicy & leaned towards the sweet side so itโ€™s good news for those who canโ€™t handle the heat well. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป
.
It is a meaty affair with Nasi Campur Bali ($9.90), which features Balinese-style beef rendang ๐Ÿ„, sambal shredded chicken ๐Ÿ“, sliced beef tossed with sambal, sweet & spicy fried tempeh, Balinese stir-fry long beans & beef skewer with basted homemade sambal ๐ŸŒถ. While the beef skewer may be a bit tough, the rest of the meats were pretty tender. Perfect for those who adore strong flavours. โœŒ๐Ÿป
.
Never mind if you get MESSI with this NASI, I wonโ€™t judge you! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Time to head down to try!

Come, letโ€™s TOK about the food that TOK TOK Indonesian Soup House @toktoksg at @payalebarsquare offers! ๐Ÿ˜‰
.
I highly recommend their Sop Buntut ($9.50 with rice) โคโคโค, which is the chef's family recipe. The broth is clear yet robust-tasting, a result of having oxtail simmered for long hours such that the meat is almost fall-off-the-bone tender. ๐Ÿคค The generous use of traditional spices also enhances the heartiness of the soup. This certainly had a taste of home. ๐Ÿ
.
Turn up the heat with Soto Betawi ($9.50 w rice) if youโ€™re someone who adores chilli. ๐ŸŒถ๐ŸŒถ๐ŸŒถ Although the spice level was very mild, it does add a little kick to this Jakarta beef soup. Slowly simmered with aromatic herbs & spices, this milky broth would be delightful to those who has a stronger palate. โœ” Like how the tangy tomatoes ๐Ÿ… balances out the sweet milky flavours, also making this bowl with a generous amount of beef chunks less heavy. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป
.
Their Soto Madura ($8.80 w rice) is prepared by boiling the beef broth with mainly lemongrass as its herbs. ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป To me, it tasted like Soto Ayam (chicken flavoured) & leaned towards the oily side. Served in the traditional way with just meat & boiled egg, simply enjoy the tender beef chunks ๐Ÿฅฉ with the piping hot rice.๐Ÿš
.
Want some sides to go with your soup? Try the Siomay Bandung ($8), which is essentially mixed steam fish dumpling with homemade peanut sauce ๐Ÿฅœ. Although it felt more like a starchy rice cake or a very dense ketupat to me, I appreciate the bouncy chew & especially liked the aromatic peanut sauce doused over. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜‹ As a nuts lover, the peanut sauce made everything nice! ๐Ÿ’ฏ
.
If youโ€™ve had a bad day or have a really sweet tooth, go for their House Sodas for the ultimate sugar rush! ๐Ÿฌ๐ŸญThe Markisa Soda (Passionfruit soda, $3) was pretty refreshing. With condensed milk added, their Fanta Soda Gembira & Coke Soda Gembira ($3 each) were too sweet for me ๐Ÿ˜‚ - Iโ€™d prefer their Teh Botol ($2.70), a classic Indonesian Jasmine Tea drink. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Ayam goreng ($8.80)
It serves variety of Indonesian food, from ayam penyet to noodles to snacks. The chicken is so juciy and tender that I can easily tear off the meat using the fork and spoon. The portion is big enough for a girl and just nice for guy.
