As the self-proclaimed cream puff queen, I decided to venture outta my usual haunts to check out this Milk Pie ($3.80) by Tokyo Milk Cheese Factory. Their take on the classic Japanese custard puff sees a part-choux-part-pie-pastry dough encasing a filling of Japanese mascarpone cheese and cream. Verdict: meh I’d rather hit my daily dairy consumption elsewhere. I was envisioning somewhat of a cross between a cream puff and fruit pie, with a buttery tender pastry and some mega smooth and rich filling. What I got instead was an extremely dry, stiff, off-the-rack sorta puff pastry, holding in an extremely tiny amount (bordering on stingy really) of rather tasteless and lacklustre cream. It actually looked rather curdled in fact, so you can imagine the texture being quite lacking.
We loved it. Do get the swirl one instead of the plain milk/ cheese one! The swirl one balances the sweetness & savoury taste perfectly. Also, although the cheesecake and biscuit was nice, I think I'll just stick to the soft serve next time. If not it will be a tad messy to eat 👅
Handcrafted cream pie puff, daily baked, filled with signature Hokkaido milk cream.
Grab a box.
Really nice.
Milk Cheese Cookie, Cheesecake and Milk Ice cream: match made in heaven
This is so good that I travelled all the way to Raffles City from Paragon when it was sold out there. I mean... Cheese Ice Cream guys!!! Gotta try it.
I previously tried their milk soft serve and really enjoyed the light, milky texture. I got the chocolate this time as it is a seasonal flavour I've never seen before.
Much to my dismay, it was everything the milk one was not. It had a really weird spongey, foamy texture - imagine biting down on melted styrofoam. The chocolate taste was faint. The texture really threw me off, and the lack of flavour didn't help. I don't like to waste food, but I couldn't bring myself to finish it.
Price: $4.50
