With its tropical vibes and rattan furniture, this is a great place to have dinner and unwind after a long day at the office. A house favourite is Thongchai’s Tonkatsu Curry (RM24), a crispy pork cutlet served with Thai jasmine rice and a flavourful Thai red curry. Burger lovers should give the Laarb Moo Tod Burger (RM28) a go – the pork patty is juicy and packed with Thai herbs giving it flavour depth and some heat. Featuring a herbed pork patty that tastes uncannily like larb, this burger scores for interesting flavours. There are enough pickled onions and fresh tomatoes to keep the flavours appetising, and there’s a side of garlic aioli to jazz things up if needed. The skinny fries also comes nicely seasoned and hard to stop eating.

This newcomer in Jaya One is one to look out for! Sporting pink neon lights and fancy garden chairs, the space look fit for an after-work treat. (Although food’s a tad cheaper between 12-3pm if you can sneak in a long lunch!)

The recommended tonkatsu curry sounded odd, considering we were expecting Thai. But the Thai touch on the Japanese dish is tastefully done! Pork katsu is delicious, with a balanced fat-to-meat ratio and enough crispy batter to hold it together. This gets dipped into the spicy aioli and the runny but flavourful Thongchai’s curry. Served with Thai jasmine rice and clear soup with a meatball, this meal hits the spot.

Don’t know why the staff kept insisting this was a pandan tea when there’s no sign of pandan at all lol. It’s good to share for two, and it’s fragrant enough that you won’t need the honey served on the side.

This is a giant burger. Expect a crispy pork patty loaded with Thai herbs. I found it very spicy but I still keep going in for more.

What a pleasant find in Jaya One! This resto serves Thai-Japanese grub that works really well. Take the tonkatsu – delicious crispy exterior while still tender on the inside. And instead being serve with plum sauce, you’ll get a bowl of creamy Thai red curry. Yum!
