I don't even like mushrooms, but these... these are irresistible... addictive, even.

Hong Kong has curry fishballs, Taipei has fishballs with a bazillion different seasonings, including curry powder. Be careful not to inhale as you're popping one into your mouth unless you want to choke on the loose particles of seasoning.

Taipei has countless night markets around and Tong Hua is one of the smallest – it's patronised largely by largely locals as tourists gravitate to the more famous hotspots, such as Raohe and Shihlin.

But if you find yourself here, make a beeline for Masa Spring Roll Ice Cream stall, which offers one of the best versions of this Taiwanese snack – and there are MANY stalls selling this.

Comprising three scoops of ice cream on a bed of finely shaved peanut brittle, garnished with fresh coriander and rolled in spring roll wrappers, this snack might sound awfully strange, but trust me, it's GOOD. But what makes Masa unique is that while most other stalls use only taro ice cream, theirs features pineapple and red bean as well; as you munch from one end of the roll to the other, you'll experience three different flavour combinations ranging from tangy to sweet, nuanced with a piquant sharpness from the coriander and the mellow nuttiness of the peanut brittle.

This is one of the most memorable things I ate in Taipei and I highly recommend this as a must-try!

YAKULT FANS UNITE! 🙋🏻 I was sweating and sniffing so badly from the super spicy Yan Shui Ji and spotted this from a stall selling Takoyaki. It was freaking amazing and super loaded with Yakult (you'll spot cartons of empty Yakult bottles sprawled all over the floor). I bought the first cup and everyone kept stealing sips from mine, I ended up returning 4 times for more! A Yakult fan's dream come true indeed.

We were actually more on the hunt for savoury food when we were stopped by this friendly uncle selling ice cream who plied us with different flavours. But I'm thankful he did, the milk and pineapple flavours are especially good, must try! I like this night market because it's not that well known and there are quite a few things I didn't see at other night markets (like this) Also he was super generous with the serving we were so full
