I loved the ambience of this place, it has huge glass windows overlooking Orchard Road and ION’s lights. This katsu set came with Japanese rice, a jellyfish side dish, radish and miso soup. The pork katsu was crispy and tender on the inside and I liked how the radish was a great palate cleanser. My favourite part of the dish was the salad - I love love love Japanese salad, especially when you get your own jar of sesame dressing to drizzle to your heart’s content.

Comes with free flow cabbage! Quite a filling portion size. For what it was I thought it was expensive. The fried pork cutlet and curry weren’t exactly memorable but it was quite easy to eat. The hot tea was good though! I still miss Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin at Ion Orchard (may it rest in peace).

We ordered the Pork and prawn mixed as well as the curry pork Katsu, and ended up with a lot of pork Katsu.
The Rosu pork was tasty for its fattier meat, fried beautifully to a solid crisp without being oily. However, still too much so gotta plan carefully next time to order just 1 portion of pork Katsu for 2 person-sharing.
There were other tasty options such as fried oyster and fish. But why wouldn’t they serve beef Katsu here like those we found in Japan?

Comes with rice, soup, pickles, shredded lettuce salad and marinated seaweed
This classic is still very good. Crisp breading breaks apart leading to moist, juicy flesh. If you don't want to pay more for their premium pork options, you'll still be very satisfied with this. Their rice and pickles are also good.

1.5 munchies: Tonkichi may be my go-to place for crispy and crunchy panko used in its freshly-made tonkatsu, but I'm not at all thrilled by the special delivery menu offerings inspired by local favourites. The Chilli Crab Sauce Katsu Don featured here failed to pay homage to one of Singapore’s greatest culinary inventions. No crabs were used to infuse the thick, eggy and spicy sauce, which explains why there were hardly any sweetness and wok hei flavours. This is exactly why I'm usually sceptical about fusion food.

The special menu is exclusively available through Tonkichi's delivery partners – foodpanda and honestbee. It will also be soon made available on uberEATS. I say just dine in at Tonkichi for its foolproof original tonkatsu.

This was a hosted meal by Tonkichi; many thanks to YCP Dining for the warm hospitality and invitation!

Tried the mentai pork instead of our usual prawn/chix bento. Please gimme back my prawn 😭 disappointing katsu with no hint of mentai within. Cutlet was overcooked. Was expecting something juicier but it tasted dry and hard instead. So not worth my request to change my selection
