first off, can i say i love how nostalgic the plate looks? 😍 back to the food - this is nothing less than a hearty meal. savour the springy, al dente noodles coated with the sweet, savoury & spicy (oh, the spice really has a good kick) dark sauce mixture all in a single mouth. the noodles alone hits the spot. making it even better, have it with their handmade well marinated pork balls (no gamey taste, it’s a yes for me!), the braised mushrooms or simply the crunchy ikan bilis (not fishy! 👏🏻). adding on to the goodness, the dry version comes with a small bowl of soup that’s great for ending the meal off with some comforting warmth.

interesting fact: you can add on other fancier/atas toppings like big prawns, fish maw, clams, salmon or even abalone!

Finally ticked this off my list! We ordered the dry ban mian with handmade meatballs. Doused in sweet and savoury sauce, the springy chewy noodles are topped with fragrant shallots and ikan bilis.

This popular noodle stall is located within an underrated rooftop hawker centre. They offer surprising variations such as clam, abalone, salmon and fish maw.

Be prepared to queue if you're heading down. We waited about 20min on a Sat afternoon (around 1.15pm) slightly after the lunch crowd in hopes of a shorter waiting time.

We stuck to the same meatball as main ingredient for our u mian. The noodles has got a spicy kick to it, but if that's not enough, you can also choose to get an additional chilli for 30c.

Do expect to queue at this popular noodle spot! ✨

When the queue starts before the store is opened, u know the food is good.

By the time the lights of the shopfront turn on at 11.10am, there was already a queue of 6 person waiting for auntie to open the shop.

I had the mince meat ban mian with additional meatball and egg.

The chilli is very explosive so please don't be a hero and ask for "jia la"

The minced eat was quite flavourful, but the Meatball was quite meh.

Overall the sauce, chilli, minced meat, just wok me over.

This surely is 1 of the top ban mian I had for quite some time.

Gave this a try after hearing many good reviews about this place. A really popular stall that left me queueing 30 mins for this! However, thought that the meatballs were pretty standard and would give that a pass next time. Their chili also left me tearing while I ate this so I’d recommend to request for less Chili if your spice tolerant isn’t great!

For those planning to visit this stall at Beauty World Food Center, don’t come before 11.30am. You will not be allowed to queue or place order. And if you come after this time, anything goes so be prepared to queue more than 30 minutes and wait for up to an hour.

The system here is quite simple. Choose your noodles, choose your soup base, choose your add on. But for me, a handmade noodle stall should be judged based on its Mee Hoon Kuay served with clear soup with none of the fanciful clams and abalone. Just prawns and minced meat. So when my turn came, I ordered the Big Prawns Minced meat Mee Hoon Kuay.

Was the Mee Hoon Kuay hand torn into the pot? Check! Did it come with Money Vegetable from Malaysia? No! Prawns were shell on and good size? Check! Soup is clear with hint of seafood umami and yellow beans? Check. Ample ikan bilis? No. Good piquant spicy chilli sauce? No.

I must say that this stall is easily top five in Singapore and being in the west of Singapore gives it an advantage. But alas! The best it is not.

If I am craving for a good bowl of handmade noodles, the timing fits and I am too lazy to head east, I’ll be back. Otherwise, just the thought of a hour wait will put me off. Even if they are top five.
