Healthy bento boxes 1for1
Protein: teriyaki chicken and beef stew
Carbs: soba and rice.
Soba sauce is quite little - wish there was more sauce
Love the salads options.
Healthy veggie and salad sides are nice.

Protein bowls are widespread these days, but have you ever had a Japanese protein bowl? That’s where @toriten.sg comes in, with their Chuu (regular, $9.90 nett), Dai (large, $11.90 nett), and Tokudai (Extra, $12.90 nett) protein bentos. You get to choose a protein, two bases (carbs), sides which include esoteric but delectable non meat offerings such as Coconut Cauliflower, a choice of a dressing and a sprinkle each.⠀

Tori Ten’s two most popular protein options, Chicken Yuzu and Chicken Tempura, were both quite delicious. The Chicken Yuzu was baked to perfection and glazed with a tangy, delicious yuzu soy marinade. The aroma of yuzu was quite prominent in every bite of tender chicken, and was a uniquely delicious bit of protein. As for the Chicken Tempura, well, it’s just a deep fried chicken, but it’s done excellently. Although the Chicken Tempura is a tad bland, the crisp batter cocooning the juicy chicken inside was texturally satisfying.⠀

As for the carbs, the Oita Fried Rice is an eggless fried rice that’s savoury, fluffy & garlicky, while the Jap Tomato Spaghetti was surprisingly familiar. If you’ve ever had Jollibee spaghetti, then this will be a familiar flavour to you. When it comes to the sides, there is a singular must order item. The Buttered Quinoa was incredibly buttery, rich and tasty, and I didn’t even know that quinoa was even allowed to be that delicious.⠀

$11.90 nett for this healthy & hearty Japanese bento is already a wonderful deal, but you can get TWO Dai (large) bentos for the price of one with #burpplebeyond! Now that’s taking your diet plans to levels beyond what was previously possible!⠀

Thank you for the invite, @burpple & @toriten.sg!

Japanese fusion bento that comes in different sizes, with the Dai Bento pictured being the large size. With the exception of the no protein option, the bentos come with the option of 1 protein, 2 bases, 5 sides, 1 dressing, and 1 sprinkler. And to me, that was a lot to make it a full meal for an ordinary-sized eater. The wide variety of options you get in your meal is a huge bonus, but the best thing you can do for yourself is to go for the yuzu chicken as your protein. It was juicy, succulent, sweet, and tangy all at the same time. On the other hand, the seemingly unhealthier chicken tempura is also a popular choice. The chicken tempura had a nice crunch, yet it was not too oily. Toriten offers a good variety of sides, with unique options like spicy barley and coconut cauliflower. I did think that the sides and bases they offered were all decent in complementing the protein. This bento is made even more worth it with Burpple Beyond’s deal - I mean, 2 of this for just $11.90? You could just eat one for lunch and keep the other for dinner, especially since it’s just a takeaway option here… or eat both in one sitting if you will😂

Thank you Burpple for having me over!⚡️

Customizable with a choice of 1 protein, 2 bases, 5 sides, 1 dressing & 1 sprinkler..
CHICKEN YUZU: 2 pieces of well-marinated boneless chicken thigh, with robust flavor & yuzu after taste; meat textures akin to frozen meat, though slightly tough but acceptable..
CHICKEN TEMPURA: 3 pieces of finger-sized meat that are thickly battered & deep-fried to crispy, which remind me of KFC; well-marinated & not greasy..
OITA FRIED RICE: Tasted like usual garlic fried rice, without the wok-hei; rice is a tad mushy..
MASHED POTATOES: Mashed potatoes are smooth & mixed with bits of carrots crunch; tastes pretty light & surprisingly addictive..
BUTTERED QUINOA: Quinoa is well-cooked to soft; love that the butter taste is not overpowering the grain..
SIZZLED CORN: Juicy & crunchy corns, which taste nothing special but complements the dish well..
COCONUT CAULIFLOWER: Smashed cauliflower akin to cauliflower rice; coconut taste is mild & not overpowering the cauliflower tastes; love that crunchy bite..
CUCUMBER SALAD: Crunchy & juicy cucumbers which are lightly seasoned; tad salty but aid in balancing out the taste..
GLAZED EDAMAME: Well-seasoned with a soft crunch..
Chosen GINGER & CARROT dressing, which has salty & sour notes; didn't really have ginger or carrot taste as drizzled over the sides, which likely has masked the actual dressing taste..
Opted for FURIKAKE, which is sprinkled over the sides as well..
Selected Tokudai (Extra), which came double portion for the bases and sides..
