Toss & Turn offers DIY Protein Bowls where you can opt for a choice of cold or hot proteins. The cold meat/deli allows you a choice of two proteins, and comes at a slightly more affordable price, whereas the hot only gives you one option and is more expensive. Hot proteins include the falafel (3 pcs, which I ordered), and seasoned roast chicken.

What’s in my bowl:
- Base: Spinach + Mediterranean rice mix (+0.80)
- Hot Protein: Falafel
- Crunchies: Cucumber, corn kernels, hard boiled egg, capsicum
- Dressing (on the side): Thai

The Mediterranean rice was a little too cold and hard to be enjoyable, but it was edible, and I liked the goji berries in the mix. I really liked the falafel! A very nice blend of chickpeas and herbs, but could be better if it was warm. Don’t be deceived by the labelling of hot proteins as they’re served without being heated up anyway. There’s the option for sous vide eggs in the Crunchies too so might opt for that next time. Thai dressing is very sour and vinegary, but it’s non fat and pretty refreshing. I only used about a tablespoon because the taste was already really strong, plus the crunchies provided enough taste on their own, especially with the capsicum included.

Sadly they seemed to be out of quite a fair variety of ingredients. I wanted soba, but they were already out of it for the day. Didn’t see prawns, nor roasted pumpkin either so I wish they would at least keep more options available since 7pm is still a reasonable dinnertime.

Ordered a bowl to go - prices for bowls are upwards from $10.80. For the basic bowl, you can choose one base/carb, two cold proteins/deli, four crunches and one dressing.

Components of this bowl:
- Base: Romaine + soba (+0.80) I really like that this option is available!
- Protein: Omelette, prawns (+0.50)
- Crunchies: Cucumber, pumpkin, corn kernels, eggplant
- Dressing: Pomegranate vinaigrette

I requested for the dressing to be packaged separately as I didn’t know when I would actually get to eat the bowl, and didn’t end up using much of the dressing when I got round to it. But it had a refreshing and zesty taste which was appetising and went well with the romaine lettuce.

To be honest, I felt the ingredients and soba were seasoned well enough on their own to add flavour to the lettuce leaves (though I hope that wasn’t cos they’d gone sour from sitting out for too long hahahah). Either way, I actually did enjoy the bowl very much. I felt the selection of ingredients was quite decent and you get a good amount for $10.80. One thing to note about the prawns is that they aren’t super fresh, but they’re still not bad anyway. I would order them again. In fact, I’d probably order this exact combo again because I love how pumpkin and roasted brinjals are available! There’s sweet potato available too. Yum!
