Finally tried the legendary UBI BAN MIAN when I took a trip to nearby audio house to get my BTO house appliances!

I was confused by the way they serve their ban mian here. Why was the ban mian dry served in plastic bowls, and soups as well as ban mian soup served in red bowls? The only reason I can think of is they ran out of clean red bowls to serve so they decided to just use disposable plastic for the ban mian dry which is less hot. LOL is this the real reason ah anyone knows?

Anw, between this and the Lorong 32 ban mian, I thought they pretty much taste the same! But Ubi's minced meat portion seems less substantial or more minced so I don't really get to eat much in one bite. The chilli here is also different. The chilli here has less of the minced chilli paste, but more of the sliced chilli padi kind.

Overall, still a nice bowl of banmian to have if you do not have the option of Lorong 32 Geylang banmian.

Having read about the handmade ban mian at DMQ Eating House, I was really looking forward to trying it.

In terms of prices, a standard bowl of their pork ban mian starts at $4.50. The noodles were cooked al dente and is on the firmer and chewier side. I actually quite enjoyed them.

Unfortunately, their sauce was rather lackluster and bland. I prefer my dry ban mian to be on the savoury side but this was way too mild for my liking. Adding the chilli sauce to the noodles does improve the dish significantly tbh.

The noodles are more on the al dente side so is super Q which I prefer! Black sauce is abit too sweet but is a good mix with the chilli (spicy n gd!!!) even when you dabao, they will provide you the soup with egg inside and got to say their soup taste rlly good and diff from other stalls and doesn’t leave the salty aftertaste behind. Have a wide variety of options and overall is a good bowl of noodles to have for lunch/on a rainy day

DRY FORTUNE PORK BALL BAN MIAN ($5.50)

I don’t usually drink the soup but this wasn’t MSG-laden & had A WHOLE EGG🥚 inside so I slurped all that up along with the QQ noodles🍜

And don’t miss their fortune pork balls! Essentially fuzhou fishballs (fishball with minced pork filling), they were bouncy & the juicy centre flowed right out when I bit into it😋

The sauce got a little sweet near the end though so I like to mix in the flowy egg & chilli to give it a more savoury edge!

This has been on my list for a while, and while it was not bad, it’s just not my thing. The noodles were a bit too al dente for my liking, but my bf liked it! He said it was chewy, but I didn’t feel so. Maybe because I like my noodles slightly softer with a bite. We also had a dry banmian, but I think the youmian fared better. The egg drop soup was nice, and the ikan bilis was crispy. Pork slices were tasty too. Overall not bad, but it’s unlikely I would return as the location is pretty inconvenient, plus I prefer the dry banmians from other places.

Used to frequent this ban mian stall last time! But the standard has dropped, fishball doesn’t seems fresh and has some fishy smell :/ the chilli is still good though!
