Trying out this Chicken Rice place near home for the first time since it opened earlier in the year. Decent pricing, air-conditioned environment, pretty good food! Liked how they serve Lava Eggs (think Ramen eggs) as side dishes too. Ooh and I loved the minced ginger! ❤️ We'll be back.
Hubby ate this regularly 40 years ago at Margaret Drive when the stall was helmed by current owner's father. And we managed to find it again! 😭
This restaurant is sparkling new. Even the toilets are clean with a beautiful sink. When we reached at 5+pm on a tue, most of the zi cha dishes like pork chops and ngor hiang were sold out. Even their famous steamed meat patty! So we ordered their new dish prawn paste fried chicken wing. It was delicious! Beautifully fried with the distinctive aroma of prawn paste, yet not too salty. We had the mixed platter of soy sauce chicken and poached chicken. They don't have roast chicken. The chicken skin was gelatinous and chewy and the meat was so smooth. Paired with their fiery chili sauce and minced ginger with chopped spring onion, the taste was truly divine. I ❤️ their peanut chicken feet soup! So rich and savory! My Cantonese DNA started humming. Their drinks were ok. I liked the ice lemon tea. I just wished their rice was not so soft. Only $50 for this whole meal for 3. What a deal! I can't wait to go back. Owner was delighted to see old patrons. We had a friendly chat and he said weekends are definitely more crowded. And more customers now prefer late dinner. So go early! I went at 5+ and still so many dishes sold out...
Their fresh chicken is simply poached, sits in cold water, chopped and served. The chicken is cut chunky with an ultra smooth skin and some beautiful gelatin layer between the skin and meat.

Skin glistening, smooth and gelatonous. The white version especially was soft and melty. Flesh firm & moist. The black version atad salty but flesh was sweet and juicy. This set comes with veges and achar (pickled veg) but sadly no soup. Chilli was spicy enough and had a tinge of exhilarating tangyness. Add the minced ginger and sweet black sauce, it is a burst of mini fireworks crackling in the mouth.
