1-for-1 with #burpplebeyond!

The strong release of wok hei here reminded me of that in a plate of Penang Char Kway Teow. Mousetail noodles fried with rempah, century egg, minced pork and prawn, shiitake mushrooms, spring onions. Very much a dish packed with heavy savoury flavours. It was the spicy rempah that, in my opinion, labelled this with a peranakan fusion identity. Only point to note was its saltiness, could be less heavy-handed.


I was quite excited to try this when I saw it on the menu as I love porridge especially seafood porridge. There were pieces of scallop scattered throughout the porridge and a decent scoop of crabmeat as well as tobiko throughout the entire porridge. The tobiko provided nice little bursts of seafood briny-ness but overall the dish wasn’t anything special and the wokhei I was promised was lacking.

The signature in house wings fried to crispy perfection and tossed in a soy and sambal sauce. This were one of the better wings I’ve had, the outside batter fried until crispy and didn’t get chewy despite the sauce and the inside was still juicy and almost falling off the bone.

Shoestring fries with a pool of squid ink sauce with mentaiko and an onsen egg. Mix in the egg and mentaiko in the middle and use it as a dipping sauce. The fries were pretty good, almost as good as a certain fast food establishment and the dipping sauce quite addictive. The thick sauce however made the fries soggy quite quickly so make sure you gobble these up quick. I really liked the sea bass chunks but they seemed abit out of place.

They weren’t lying about the wok hei in this porridge 🤯🤯 The porridge tasted like it was slowly stirred in a decade-old pot slowly collating all that charred bits and wok hei goodness 🤤🤤 Porridge consistency is more similar to Cantonese porridge with mashed grains with a slightly sweeter note, with ingredients like tobiko, crabmeat and scallops. Definitely one of the better dishes here, and also available with burpple beyond! 👍🏻👍🏻

Quite an interesting fusion dish, but even up till now can’t decide if I would order it again. Buah keluak dry ramen was quite nice and flavourful, but the buah keluak paste was a little too chunky to be properly held onto by the noodles. Did appreciate the generous servings of protein (chicken and smashed pork balls). Overall quite a good try at fusion food, worth a try with burpple beyond! 😊😊
