I'm sure everyone in KL would have been here or at least heard of this place as its nasi lemak is known as 'the best nasi lemak' in town.

I can't say if it is the best but this place definitely lives up to its fame. The fried chicken is the real star - it is crispy and well-marinated, and amazingly tender, moist on the inside. It is topped with lots of fried crispy bits of spices, which adds extra flavour and crunch when eaten with the rice.

Even though the rice might not be the most fragrant, it is very fluffy with each grain perfectly separated. Mix the rice with the well-balanced sweet-and-spicy sambal, so BOMB! Service was quick and efficient too as our food came in less than 10 minutes.

Malaysians love nasi lemak and it ranges from the basic snack version at RM1 to this at 10 times the price. Some folks consider this the best nasi lemak in the KL area. I found everything good, even the soft hard-boiled egg, with the chilli and the chicken's flavour exceptional. Although the meat was okay, it had such a medley of Malay herbs and spices, that you can enjoy in the form of the accompanying fried bits. It's fun because there are so many things on the plate to go with your already flavourful rice. Village Park might also be the most efficient money-making machine I've eaten at - seats are filled by assignment, everyone orders the same dish, and the payment queue is neverending.

Last meal on this KL trip and ending it with a bang! Village Park Restaurant’s nasi lemak has clinched it as highlight of the trip. I could wax lyrical about all the amazing components (their rice is suuuuuper lemak) but I’ll just touch on the best item on the plate; that fried chicken.

Marinated in an aroma bombz of flavours, it’s deep fried to perfection – crisp on the outside and amazingly moist and tender in the inside. Then they top it off with a copious amount of fried spice bits (think ginger, lemongrass...) that’s oh-so-fine with just rice and sambal. Man oh man, I’d even go so far to claim this as one of the best nasi lemaks I’ve ever had! If you only have time for one stop in KL, pleaseeeee come here.

No trip to KL is completed without a stop at Village Park Restaurant. Well known for their nasi lemak, the place is so popular that the seats covered the walkway outside too.

And it’s easy to spot a plate of Ayam Goreng on every table. Made of fragrant coconuty steamed rice accompanied with fresh hot crispy fried chicken and sambal. The chicken is well season and so crispy delicious that you can’t get enough of it.

P.S: it’s very packed before 1pm and you might have difficulties finding a seat, so best to drop by early morning or late afternoon.

A foodie trip to Malaysia isn't complete until you've eaten its national dish, nasi lemak. Locals eat this dish of coconut milk rice and spicy sambal at any time of the day, and you'll find many versions wherever you go. You'll find the most customary version at Village Park restaurant in Damansara Uptown. Although it buzzes with a crowd from as early as 6.30am, the service is efficient and your patience will be rewarded. Dig into the signature Nasi Lemak Ayam Goreng (RM10.40) – think fluffy coconut rice, juicy golden fried chicken, sweet-and-spicy sambal, crunchy peanuts and ikan bilis. Make space for other delicious sides like the Sambal Sotong (RM3) which spice lovers will enjoy.

You can never go wrong with a good plate of Nasi Lemak from Village Park. Everything done just right! Fluffy fragrant rice, peanuts and Ikan bilis adds to the crunch factor of the dish, fried chicken undoubtedly juicy and aromatic. It’s no wonder people were willing to get out of bed at the crack of dawn on a public holiday just to get their hands on a plate!
Come early to avoid the breakfast crowd.
